Most of the songs on Some Girls were long jams edited to the known released format. They worked this way also before but, at least form what I hear from bootlegs, by the end of the 70s this was the rule.
As much as I like the concise versions, I also love the long takes too. They capture the ability of the band to build up a groove, to improvise and develop patterns on the spot, the dynamics, you know, all the stuff that made the 78-82 concerts so great.
I wonder how Stones fans would have reacted if Some Girls was a 4 track LP, with extended versions of Miss You, Whip, Beast and Imagination (just an example). Something like Bitches Brew, to make a famous example.
For me it would have been the ultimate party album. But I am afraid that it is the traditional song format what most of you expect from a stones release.
Quote WeLoveYou Sounds like great idea.......I take it some of these long takes are available as bootlegs? Presumably on Hot Stuff? I've nver heard them yet...
Yes they are available as bootlegs, and in very good quality too.
Miss You is my absolute favorite. It could go on for ever and ever!!!
