This track would be great if not for the line that makes me cringe every time: "
I got my money, my ticket, all that shit, I even got myself a little shaving kit."

To me it's the worst Jagger line ever in a song...

it's awful bad - but, sadly, there are worse ones

Beelyboy my dear, we already get that you don't dig it.
maybe there's a thread about something that does groove you?
there's way more joy in pondering what moves us than harping on what doesn't ... truly

this thread is grooving me sufficiently, just, at the very present, but thank you.
everything turns to gold or all that glitters is not gold? hey there's no 'harp' on this song! would that they were, in place of some of the.....lyrix
smiling smiley

joy onto you! in the spirit of fun. really. please don't take my little opines so seriously With Sssoul, as I do so honestly admire and appreciate you. i liked voodoo lounge!! a lot. i thought a renewed spirit and vision had overtaken them so i was surprised not to be more attached to this one actually.

"Flip the Switch" is a real Charlie Watts showcase. He's really on fire here. He's the star of the song. The lyrics, well, I don't care about the lyrics when the music is that good. They sounded kind of cool when the album came out, even down to the shimmy kit. I always thought the attitude of the song was something like "Listen up goth kids! Eat this!" and then enter Charlie.

8 out of 10 for this one. It's amongst the top five on Bridges.
I wish the band had continued at that level, but unfortunately, their creative output from the years that were to come was rather slim in comparison to years past.
The guitar solo is great too.

Wish they would come up with more tracks like FTS.

or just more tracks at all?
They left some great stuff in the vaults from the 40 licks sessions that produced "Don't Stop" & the other 3 from the CD. We also have "Hurricane".
I got to speak to Chuck Leavall on one occasion and he mention that they had a great CD ready but went with the Greatest Hits as planned. Money talks. Hard for CDs to get maded today. Deep Purple has plans for a new CD but,not sure if it will happen. Money as we all know comes from touring. I hope they along with the Rolling Stones come out with at least one more. The clock is ticking....

>> I bet that shaving kit line is Keith's <<

most of the lyric was written by Keith.
and the shaving kit is one of the extra-hilarious bits in it

I think the whole song is funny. Got the turkey and the stuffing too - I even saved a little bit for you. It's FUNNY. It's reedonkulous. That shaving kit line - reminds me of Keith's love for old time music, barbershop quartet kind of thing.

That live video from St Louis - one of Keith's last moments of guitar glory - he wasn't playing those same three notes anywhere, a couple of Chuck Berry licks here and there, some nice range in the lick in positions on the neck and just overall some nice twangy shit going on.

Do you/Chuck mean that there was a ready - or almost ready - album finished from the material of 40 LICKS sessions?

Mick and Keith have also mention the songs Left behind in interviews from the licks tour. Read that they would see light one day. Chuck talks about the sessions in his book, one song he mentions as being his fav from Keith was one call "180" as in you do a ... the song was about Keith losing his temper over something... stopping and rethinking it hence the title. I think they could easily do another "Tattoo You". Using songs from the vaults.

i don't think there's any hard evidence of that at all.

not sure, but regardless it seems they were busy in the studio during '02, here's a previous post regarding stones sessions at that time:

Not to mention the near-album's worth of tracks they cut with Danny Saber in 2002 before jettisoning them to do the Forty Licks tracks with Don Was.

so no hard evidence your honor, that is true, but perhaps enough circumstantial for at least a plea bargain.

not enough evidence for a trial/conviction - so we're throwing it out. next?

I have to reluctantly agree. For all the great, rumbling sonics, I think it's a relatively weak link on what is otherwise a very impressive album.

In 1996-'97 the Tim Robbins film Dead Man Walking, which took a hard, hard look at the last days of a death row inmate, was a huge hit. The star, Susan Sarandon won a Best Actress Oscar and the film's soundtrack, featuring Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith and other heavyweights attracted a lot of attention.

I always heard "Flip The Switch" as Keith's irreverent spin on that film's seriousness.

Danny Saber sucks. His work with the Stones on Bridges sucks. Why they would have done anything more with him is just Velveeta.
\

really? why exactly does he suck? i mean, haha, i like the sarcasm and the velveeta cheese comment, but what's the substance to back your statement? "gunface" is far from the worst track on the abortion that is B2B.

Re: Track Talk: Flip The Switch

Gunface is pedestrian. It's filler. There's nothing significant about it.

I gotta agree with Doxa on this one, although maybe I'd replace the word "stupid" with "juvenile". grinning smiley

This one sounds like macho, badass posturing, but it's not very convincing. And the tempo, they just can't keep up with it, really.

Not a horrible track, but I wish they'd slowed it down and spent more time crafting it, because it's got some potential.

It's a You Got Me Rocking piece of crap ripoff. The drums are spastic. The bass is terrible. Keith could play a good bass at one point, and Ronnie had his moments. Obviously they think they can just pick up the instrument every four or five years in the studio. Well, they can't, at least since about Emotional Rescue. This one needs to be flushed in the Sad, Sad, Sad/Oh No Not You Again/Had It With You/toilet.

Re: Track Talk: Flip The Switch

the lyrics are a trainwreck. i agree seems almost like an even worse "you got me rocking". i saw the track mentioned earlier i liked "gunface"

How can ANYONE slag off this tune?!?!?!?!

If you do I must say you've given up on life. This song's about life, if yer down and out you just get a grip and pack yer little shaving kit and jump on the train. Even if you got a busted nose and 3 black eyes.
The worst thing that can happen? We're all gonna die some day. F T S is in my top ten ESPECIALLY lyricwise.

COME ON this is the reason we don't dig bon jovi and such crap.

Love and anger write all the best songs, Mick & Keef were clearly pissed off during the time they made this great modern day record. And I thank Noel and Liam for this, God bless them all.

You're a rag trade girl, You're the queen of porn, You're the easiest lay on the white house lawn!!
