One of the classic loooooooong song stories is how Phil Spector, after
creating that masterpiece Righteous Brothers-You Lost That Loving Feeling
knew radio DJs wouldn't give it any air-play in 1965 because of it's running time of 3.50 ....

So Phil ordered that the record be pressed with the time printed on
the single as 3.05 and if caught out would just say it was a pressing misprint ...

Anyway radio DJs fell for the 3.05 misprint and played the record but were often bewildered
why their playlist cut a minute into the tightly scheduled half-hour news breaks .........Cunning Stuff Phil

I remember when "Ruby Tuesday" was an AM radio hit, they shortened it by one verse. Left off the last verse, if I remember correctly. When it was on the radio, I could tell whether or not it was gonna be the shortened version by one little click sound during a percussive note in an early verse.

as everyone knows Midnight Rambler is over 9min, the longest hit (in a warhorse sense rather than charts) from a Stones studio record. Played live I have one that is like 13 minutes but I presume that it has been longer sometime.

Studio version is just 6:53. So, its not even the longest song on 'Let It Bleed', let alone in their career. Goin' Home is their longest studio song (11:16)

There are numerous songs on Stones studio albums that are longer than 'Rambler'

How Can I Stop (6:54), Memory Motel (7:09), CYHMK (7:16), YCAGWYW (7:29), Sing This all together (see what happens) (7:57)

I think the longest versions of 'Rambler' played live were around 1975 - they must have been around 15 mins.

when i was about 12 there was a really dire long song getting a lot of radio play -
the refrain was something about a cake that it took so long to bake - seriously! and it just went on and on and on
