What else for the Stones now?
Posted by: pgarof ()

I know these threads are getting a little weak during the Stones inactivity but we have to keep the interest going don't we.

I was just thinking of everything they had done, not always the first but puting these things at the front for everyone else to follow.

1. Playing a free concert at Hyde park
2. Altermont, a fan being stabbed to death in front of them playing.
3. Leaving Britain to become Tax exiles (is that where the name Exile on main street came from?)
4. Kicking out a band member and becoming even bigger.
5. Pioneering the large stadium gigs
6. playing to one and a half million people.
6. biggest grossing tour of all time.
7. Being named the Greatest rock and Roll band in the world.
8. Playing the Superbowl.
9. Replacing 2 or three members and still not losing their following.
10.bringing the Blues into the general market, Little Red rooster being the first and only single to make number 1.(not 100% sure on that one)
11. staying together for 48 years and still being on top.

Perhaps someone else could add to the list but what else can they do now to be the first, they have near enough done everything and bands of today can only follow in their footsteps.

It's really a bad tasting point to place "having a fan stabbed to death right in front of them" on a list of firsts. Matter of fact that should just disappear.

That's enough.
To continue till death.

What the Stones did for the Blues is one if their real, lasting accomplishments. Probably one that the whole band feels equally proud of. I always love the old clip of Brian introducing Howlin Wolf on TV. It stood for and summed up what they were bringing about in the early days.

Make a new good CD and then go on a 100 clubs tour.

Making that lot of money, they could do much more for the Blues, not only inviting the stars of the genre.Just see what Mick Taylor recorded with the Wentus Blues Band.

What does playing a free concert have to do with anything? Ever? How many people attended? There is never truth to those figures. So it's pointless.

So their little midget tour guide called them TGRNRBITW but they've never said to stop using that term to describe them. That certainly isn't an accomplishment.

You right, it is bad taste but i was just trying to point out every milestone in their career, hope i didn't offend anyone!

12. The only band to rival The Beatles
13. The only band to play covers BETTER than the origionals (not all but a good few)

There has to be lots more!

just to kinda return to your original question - there's really nothing left for them to do that would/could qualify as ground-breaking. they could do the unthinkable and switch gears and forge some new (for them, anyway) territory either in their album-making or touring approach, which would be a very welcome development for alot of fans....don't see it happening, though.

Your proberbly right but wouldn't it be great if they turned around and came up with something so groundbreaking that amazed both the fans, music industry and general public. Can't think what though!

well, we're just mere mortals. it would take the immortal talents of a mick and keith to come up something like this....it's why we're just us and they're them.....

They could go back to their roots and be a 5 peice blues band, no frills, bring out an album of old blues covers, how about that?

ditto.

but, lets face it, they have nothing left to achieve - and that could be their biggest problem. they have done everything, so whats left? even a great album would mean just repetition.

Re: What else for the Stones now?

A great album is just that - great. It can never be a repetition.

how right you are so it would have to be something rather than music to be different like the staging of a concert maybe, something or somewhere that has never been done.

retire now.

(a) too expensive to follow this band any longer.
(b) keith ain't the same guitarist anymore.
(c) nothing left to prove.
