Now we have had our opinion on the Steel Wheels to present aired, what about the period before.
My favourite would have to be Tattoo you, it's just a great collection of songs I love it almost as much as the Beggars to Exile foursome.

I've always liked "It's Only Rock n Roll" despite the relatively poor production and the fact that it wasn't that well received.

Concerning this period I pick Some Girls.

As an album it must be this for me,although it´s hard to choose one,´cause
some others come close after it.

'Tattoo You' & 'Some Girls' are probably the ones I've played the most, though I consider EVERY post-Sticky Fingers album to be at best a bit patchy (yes, including Exile!).

Love all of them.

True, sometiomes I don't feel like listening to some songs in DW or Undercover so I skip them, but fortunally for me, I love 'em all.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I would have to choose Emotional Rescue as my Post-Exile favorite; followed by Some Girls, Tattoo You and then Goat's Head.

it's nice to be in the minority; looks like i've got company. ER's my fave of this group, not necessarily what i consider their best, per se, tho....

Tattoo You is the best of them - and it's scary to think how much better B&B could have been.

As far as listening goes, it's in this order:
Tattoo You
Goats Head Soup
Black And Blue
Sucking In The Seventies
It's Only Rock'N'Roll
Emotional Rescue
Love You Live
Made In The Shade
Some Girls

From best to worst:

01. Tattoo You - All killer, no filler! One side of great rockers, other side with nice ballads.
02. Some Girls - A real treat, great punky songs and Faraway Eyes is funny!
03. Undercover - My first stones album, will always love it!
04. Sucking In The Seventies - Great collection of edited hits and a few rarities.
05. Goat's Head Soup - Some great songs, but terrible messy production
06. Black And Blue - Underrated album. Grows on you. Memory Motel is great!
07. Emotional Rescue - She's So cold is great, but Indian Girl is probably their worst song; rich millionairs making fun of poverty in Latin America. Yuk!
08. It's Only Rock'N'Roll - Some nice ones, lot's of filler. Production could have been better also.
09. Still life - Love Going to A Go Go, Under My Thumb and Let's Spend The Nigh together. The rest is mediocre!
10. Made In The Shade - Rather pointless compilation really, many great songs though!
11. Love You Live - Gotta Move and the the El Mocambo side is great, the rest is utter crap.
12. Dirty Work - Their worst album? One Hit could have been a contender, but that horribly dated eighties drum sound spoils it.

Easy answer - Slum Girls.

Up there with Sticky Fingers as my 2nd favourite Stones album behind Exile.

Id go with some Girls.

ER is a funny album. While I listen to it I'll play all of it and Im thinking "This is really good" but then afterwords when I think about It doesn't stay with me.
Id say She's so Cold and All About you are by far the best songs on it.

Oh yeah, left out
Still Life - I've always liked Under My Thumb, Let Me Go, Twenty Flight Rock, Imagination and Time On My Side. LSTNT is funny, especially with that third guitar O/D in the bridge, and the rest of it is garbage.

Love You Live - Most of this album is crap. Honky Tonk Women is supreme - they've never topped this performance - while the only other stand out tracks to me are Fingerprint File, You Gotta Move and maybe YCAGWYW. "The" el Mocambo side is excellent. The hilariously bad edits and performances of Brown Sugar and JJF...those are just funny to listen to. They sound so 'Hey let's hurry this up so we can get outta here'. Too many O/D vocals.

Made In The Shade - This can really only be treated as an era kind of thing. They released it because they had no new album out plus the stupid Metamorphosis album. At least it's not just fluff (Angie) and has some guts on it (Rip This Joint, Dance Little Sister, Bitch, Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo) so it's unique in that aspect.
