If your just listening to local FM radio stations, no Sirius, or MP3's, what are your top 10 classic BANDS that when you hear on the radio, you can't change the station fast enough. In no particular order.

1. Journey
2. Styx
3. REO Speedwagon
4. Bon Jovi
5. ZZ Top
6. Tom Petty
7. Jackson Browne
8. Aerosmith
9. Pat Benetar
10.Eagles

I know I probably forgot some but I'm sure you all will refresh our memories. Or cringe them.

In New Orleans we hear the same songs every hour it seems. The usual Pink Floyd - Brick In The Wall or Shine On You Crazy Diamond or Money; Girls Girls Girls or one of the other Motley Crue hits from Dr Feelgood; Billy Squire's Stroke Me or the one he did that sounds like...Led Zeppelin. Way too much Led Zeppelin. AC/DC's Back In Black or You Shook Me All Night Long - the radio doesn't seem to know any other AC/DC songs...The Rolling Stones SFTD, JJF, Ruby Tuesday, Satisfaction, Angie, Miss You and Start Me Up; whatever boring lame Boston song - the one about the chick? Terrible, usually followed by the other Boston wannabe bands like Kansas and that other one.

There is the odd one that's always played - Billy Idol's Mony Mony or whatever that song is called, a few other odd somewhat big hits by various people - but always the same songs.

The biggest band I hardly hear compared to those? The Beatles. A Day In The Life and Back In The USSR are two that stick out along with some earlier ones. But they seem to not be played half as much as the above mentioned.

That's why I hardly ever listen to radio these days - it gets me down.

Now why do you think Gazza would say anything because of the Beatles?
you might get some reaction if you mentioned Bob Dylan or Bruce Springsteen....or Bon Jovi, lol.

Same with me,and the Beatles thing is ,I remember one thread concerning most
overrated artists - took the Beatles (amongst others) - and was stoned.

History ...

You guys need to find more progressive radio stations. The classic rock stations play the same sh!t over and over again. College radio stations, music oriented public radio stations, many satellite radio programs, and internet "radio" programs have lots of new cutting edge music. I love some classic rock (Stones for example), but I can't listen to classic rock radio anymore.

I'm with you Luke - I hardly ever listen to classic rock stations anymore. The only trouble is that some of the progressive stations play Coldplay - and I just can't have that.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.

Well she is not quite classic in the 60's sense, but she is 55 years old came in at the back end of the 70's and I don't think that because the band has the front person's name that being called a "band" is incorrect.

Journey
Boston
Steely Dan (the stuff that gets played anyway)
Kansas
Bon Jovi
Jackson Browne
Eagles

Then I turn the station and have to listen to Coldplay, radiohead and My chemical Romance....There no good radio in L.A. (except for Jim Ladd)...and we are up to 5 Rock stations again.

4. AC/DC.
5. AC/DC.

There's a local classic rock station here, CHEZ 106, I call them CHEZ C/DC.

James Blunt,
50 Cent,
Ashley Simpson and her fellow auto-tune using poster girls with the right marketable attitude,
Coldplay,
Nickelback,
Linkin Park,
Daniel Powter and his fellow poster boys aiming at the same target audience,
Tokio Hotel,
RNB singers who over-use the auto-tune effect on purpose

Bon friggin Jovi.

I've been known to throw things at the radio in work when crap like "Living on A prayer" starts up - work colleagues have occasionally had to dive for cover.

Its not just the fact that I find them unlistenable, but that theres so little music on daytime radio which would loosely fall into the 'rock' category, and they seem to monopolise what token concession is given over to that type of music.

Is that the stupid voice synthesizer thing? I despise that. It strikes me as a gimmic used by talentless hacks.

Eddie Money,Cheryl Crow, Eric Clapton, Kool & the Gang, some female singer that has a repetitive 'woo-wee' vocal track played on adult contempary station, and every US corporate radio station that plays the same playlists in every city.
Play some new music by new bands and expand veryone's horizon's. There is alot of talent out there that is going unnoticed and that is a shame.
Thankfully, radio out of Toronto & area plays a different format and is not as limited to what they can play. Some actually still take requests! This helps to get some variety on the radio.
I like the idea of the JACK FM format that at least plays more variety, but it's the same playlist as other radio stations' formats combined.
I want to start my own radio station ! Scre^^ corporate radio format.

It's not the bands that are the problem, it's the radio. Anyone who writes Journey, REO, Boston, is listening to the rong radio stations.

U2
The Police

In France, there's a radio called RTL2
It is a pretty good compromise between my musical tastes and my wife's tatses.

The only thing is that they spend 25% of their time in the morning airing U2 and The Police. I am really getting tired of these ones

In New Orleans you have B97, which plays so called R&B - that moaning "music" plus whatever rap crap with a little bubblegum hip hop thrown in.

Then there is some station, 106.7 that plays the current form of alternative rock that just SUCKS.

Then there is one or two classic rock stations and, ha ha, when on job sites - as in, not me playing it but someone else so I hear the crap, I have heard someone change from one to the other and the same song was on.

When I listen to the radio, I listen to WWL - commercials interrupted by talk radio. When I have my daughter in the truck with me she pretty much bounces between B97 and whatever the Biloxi station is. The Monkey. Same horrible music - from that terrible Kid Rock song to that stupid Put yer hands in the air-ai-ai-ai-airrr. And all the other garbage.

Unless I make sure she doesn't turn off the CD player, in which case it's usually AC/DC or The Stones or The Cult cranking.
