ownership

I was listening to the Beatles Anthology CD's the other day. 6 sides, a bit uneven but worth getting.
I noticed that the Strawberry Fields demo recorded at John's Weybridge home is actually owned not by Apple/EMI, but by John's estate, i.e. Yoko.
Whereas material recored in the studios are EMI's copyrights.
Presumably this means that Keith's Toronto recordings in 1977 would be owned by him?
Also, Beggars Banquet rehearsals (and others) taped at Keith's Redland's home, would belong to Keith/the Stones rather than the record label...Decca at the time...now ABKCO.
So technically free to be released, without a Klein problem??
Is this a reasonable assumption.
Or maybe it depends on the "terms" of the recording contract.
