My opinion is:
1)Emotional Resque/Some girls RS
2)New York Lou Reed
3)American haikus Jack Kerouac

I love Woody Allen movies, so I think NYC sounds a bit jazzy/classical... That's my first connection. smiling smiley I've never been there, though.

Not "spirit", but I think of NYC
anytime I hear Simon and Garfunkle
and, for some reason, Hendrix's Electric Ladyland
(probably because most of it was recorded there).

Gotta go with 'Live at CBGB's' and Lennon's 'Sometime Time In NYC'. The song New York City is one of his all time best rockers, love the lyric too.

Some Girls (Of course) and Bridges To Babylon.
Of songs I'd also pick a few from Tattoo You along with hendrix' Crosstwon Traffic. I've never been there though, so th vibe of NYC I know is the one from films.

The New York spirit when? New York is constantly changing. There are certain records and movies and books that remind me of the years when I lived and worked there, but those are personal to me. And the New York I lived and worked in no longer exists.

For the Rolling Stones... Musically speaking, most people would probably say Some Girls... because of Shattered & SNL.

For me personally, it's Tattoo You because of WOAF video & my memory.

The movie Smoke reeks NY to me.
Most of Lou Reed's New York reflects NY. Especially the awesome song "Halloween Parade". It's in the Lou Top 3 for me for sure. I LOVE IT!!!
