Exile On Main Street Blues
(Mick Jagger / Keith Richards)

Sunset Sound Studios, Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, US, March 28, 1972

Mick Jagger - vocals, piano

Exile on Main Street, it's a strange street to walk down
Exile on Main Street, it's a strange street to walk down

Now let it loose, now come on, let it all hang down
Round up those people, move them out of town
Gimme little drink from your loving cup
Now, shake your hip mama, keep me all shook up
Feeling so doggone happy, like a natural child
Oh, help me do the boogie, all down the line
Come on Virginia, let's shoot some dice
My sweet black angel, shine a little light
Feel so happy, feel so happy, feel so happy, feel so happy
Where’s your ventilator baby, where’s your ventilator, where’s your ventilator baby
Where’s your ventilator, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh mama, oh yeah

Oh, Exile on Main Street, it's a low down dirty ground

Produced by Jimmy Miller

First released on:
The Rolling Stones - “Exile On Main Street” 7” flexi single
(New Musical Express Magazine) UK, April 29, 1972

Is "Exile On Main Street Blues" on the remastered Exile bonus CD?

I adore this song, have it on "Taxile on Main St" - another gem from that era. I can't wait for these dug up Exile tracks to make an appearance in May.

[ I want to shout, but I can hardly speak ]

I would hardly call this a song. More like an extended promotional jingle.

A nice little jam by Mick, that sounds as a spontaneous idea.
Could it be this idea was worked out a bit more to become "Hide your love"?

The bass drum on All Down The Line still is a KILLER, even on this flexi.
I like the edited version better, where someone put the piano parts together.

Not on the flexi, but in this version:

i think some are going a bit overboard, calling it a "gem", "I adore this song", "love it", "it's great". umm, no.

It´s a very nice promotion idea. And it´s a Jagger/Richards song.

I remember trying to obtain a copy of the NME containing the flexi-disc on the day it came out and having a hard time getting hold of it but , in the end, I did.

Boy, did that fire me up in anticipation of Exile. I wasn't disappointed!

It doesn't appear this song is amongst the bonus tracks. I'm hoping against hope that it's either a hidden track on the CD, or that they surprise us with a re-issue of the flexi-single packed inside the vinyl re-release.

A clever bit of promotion by that modern PT Barnum, Mick Jagger.

The full take is over the end credits of the Stones in Exile film.

It's a pretty rough crackly sounding version, presumably they've used the same bootleg version we all have (in order to sound like a crackly old 78rpm record) rather than the original recording that ought to have in the vaults.
