How Confident Are You There Will be a 2009 Tour?
Posted by: timbernardis ()

I know we cannot know for sure at this point (if we ever can until announced), but how strong are u in your thoughts and feelings that they will or won't tour in '09?

And, please elaborate as to why yes or why no or to what degree either way.

Maybe you feel somewhat confident, but not totally -- well, why?

Maybe you feel somewhat negative, but not totally -- well, why?

I ended up with my face in the mud over an '08 tour as normally good sources turned out not to be correct. Last time I will ever make such stupid pronouncements.

But -- on to '09 discussions . . . . .

My be wishful thinking on my part, but I think there are still untouched markets out there, as well as markets not visited in a long while like.....New Orleans.

90%

..and for the record, it wasnt a case of people getting their info wrong re - 2008. The Stones changed their minds, as they did in 1996 and 2004, and for some reason decided not to go on the road.

They said after the 02 last year there would be no more large world tours but smaller ones and i'm sure that's what they'll do.

Well they do have a full year to do their solo things...so next year might work. Mick is the one who is anxious to get some solo projects off the ground...either it be music or his film company. Keith just has those couple Winos tracks---if that's even going through. But hes ready to go anytime. Ronnie doing another album? Why not? He doesn't tour behind it anyway.

But if we're looking for a next year tour....tour behind what? A new album? Do they have enough time to write and record a new album by the 09 fall announcement? It's possible they might tour in 09...but tour to promote..........?

EDIT...well looking at old news posts here on IORR. It could be possible to write and record a new album. It looked like they didn't begin writing ABB till about March or so. The press conference wasn't till May and by that point Mick said the album was 85% done. So it could be possible for them to follow that schedule again next year.

A question to the market-aware folks on board:

Is this a sane & rational thing to do, to tour already in 2009?

If so; the management could get in touch with me & I give some
fleshy suggestions on markets that they havent gotten into yet.

My sources say fall 2009. But first: The Winos (at least an effort to try to get them together)

you obviously live in the US or Europe, have plenty of cash, and have easy access to tickets....
we're not all so lucky...

I really have serious doubts about Keith's fingers actually, on the other hand
if they want to do it once again they better not wait too long though...

Any way a good decision.

Yeah, it seems sane and rational enough to me! Provided they have the will, why not? I bet they go for the cash cow in the US rather than new markets though I hope I am wrong.

A gig in the Royal Albert Hall + tickets of course, is all I ask...
+ maybe regarding the setlist... I might email Chuck (what NOT to play)

why not? It'll have been 3 years since their last US shows.

as long as theyre not trying to fill 70,000 seater stadiums in the midwest in November at $500 a ticket.

The Stones didnt say it at all.

There were a few newspaper stories quoting people "close to them" as saying it

The gaps between tours are getting shorter, on average, than since the 60s/early 70s. Why? Could be several reasons:

- money is better... but after the first £50M in the bank, who cares - so only Ronnie probably cares about this

- they enjoy it... Ok so some places and some gigs are boring etc., but overall you can sense that they really enjoy it (even Charlie); maybe not spending 60% of 2 years on the road in each other's company, but most of the time playing and then there is the adulation from the fans

- time is running out... assuming they all stay in good health, and lets face it all have had serious scares apart from Mick, they know that time waits for no-one - the day will come when a formal "tour will be impossible: so don't waste time!

My conclusion for this ramble - 2009 is very likely.

2011.... the touring format will need to change as Charlie will be 70 etc. etc. Arenas only (maybe this in 09/10); a month or two on tour; 3 months off etc.

I'd expect they's do a new album, start touring in September 2009,do the world and conclude in 2010.There isn't much difference in their appearance between 2004-2008!I'd even put money on a 2012-13 50th aniversary tour with special guests.Thinking of age,ok there's 70 and there's 70.My father is 74 and he's about to take of to Asia.He does all the things he did when he was 40.

I'm pretty certain since 2009's been mentioned by BV and Gazza. Starting to save money for it up around November I think.

Whether they tour at all, and on how big a scale, might have a lot to do with how well the world economy is doing by 2009/10. They've got a sharp eye for these things.

And anyway, how long is it going to take Keith to get his book sorted out?

I think the chances are 50/50. Health will likely be the determining factor and who knows what a year will bring. Hopefully they will all be well and they can get out there again.
