Percent of Listenable Stones Songs
Posted by: flilflam ()

When I listen to a Stones CD, I routinely skip over some songs I do not particularly care for to get to my favorites. Not that the skipped over songs are terrible, but each fan has his favorites. So the questions is:

When listening to Stones CD's, about what percent of the tracks do you often listen to, on the average, considering the entire Stones discography?

My answer is 50%.

Please don't hate me. I am a new member.

I listen all the way through each and every one .

Oh please, no percentages. Isn't this what the Stones are not about?
Respect to Keno, but how can you judge a song as "it slid from a 4.7 to a 4.45"?

There are not too many that are not "listenable". There are a few though. I would say that the average is about one per album.

one of the wonderful discoveries I made when, around age 10, making the leap from Hot Rocks to the original studio albums, was "Holy smokes! All of their songs are good!" That's what made me a Stones fan. Can't imagine skipping any song more than occasionally.

Of course, at this point, I only listen to the Stones occasionally, but that's from overplay and wider interests, not from wanting to skip songs.

This completely depends on the album in question.
ie, Let It Bleed I listen to 100%. A Bigger Bang, I listen to 25% (four songs).

stones songs can very in quality, however, the percentage of songs that are listenable... I'd say 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999998% of there stuff is listenable.

I'd say most band or artists have less than 50%, even the greater ones do rarely reach above 30-35%!
For me Stones is maybe around 90-95%.
Other extreme exceptions from the rule are:
Dylan (even if I aint no big fan anyhow!) with maybe 80% in my ears..
Thin Lizzy with maybe 95-9%
Cohen with 80%.

I also fins Nick Cave post-Birthday Party up there, with maybe 80%.
And Beatles of course, maybe also 80%.

Only for fun - but there is a serious resonance here.

I'm old enough to think of an album as a unit, not just a collection of songs, so I try to play the whole thing in one sitting. As they have gotten longer in the cd era, that's gotten harder to do...

There are not many songs that I would deem unlistenable they are:
Now I've Got A Witness
My Girl
Sing This All Together (See What Happens) - when it came out it may have been 60's "groovy" but today I can't take it!
Gomper
Luxury
Short and Curlies
Cherry Oh Baby
Emotional Rescue
Hold Back, Fight, Winning Ugly, Back to Zero
Blinded by Rainbows
New Faces
Anyway You Look At It

There are a coupke of more but the percentage is very low. The only other one that comes close is The Beatles but I struggle with their early releases.

When a kid I skip the Beatles, later on I skip the Queen, U2, Sprigsteen and all this crap.
But I can't skip even 0,001% of the stones.

95% or more listenable through Tattoo You. After that, about 65% (I am being charitable).

Now I know on what skipstoneĀ“s nickname is based on...

Seriously, donĀ“t have any percentage, depends on various reasons to skip a stone...
( mood,time,...).

But usually no stone is skipped...( ok,SOL got no chance...Indian Girl as well...)

I'd say it's a higher percentage than any other group. Easily 95% are "listenable"
Most other groups hover around 50 %.

It was my understanding that there would be no math.

One of the leading German music journalists once said "Undercover is a mediocre Stones album but any mediocre Stones album is much better than 99 % of this year's releases".

Exact same here!

I'm very album oriented. Generally, if I listen to a record (Stones or other artist) and bad song comes by, I very rarely skip it. In the end, I just listen to the entire album less often. (Which means that if there are great tracks on a very uneven album, I miss out on those songs more than they deserve.)

100%. In my " ever so humble"opinion, the Stones don't fit into a category of music like classic rock for example. They are on thier own. I live the Stones: for me They are truly a blessing from God. I love the stones.

Go Dawgs!

Oh, I see how it is. So you don't like the squeak in the bass-drum pedal in the second verse of Miss Amanda Jones, eh? There's just no pleasing some people. Jeez!
