This list may help you a lot.
Although it's not been updated for a while, it's pretty useful all the same

A few classic soundboard or FM boots that I'd recommend, just to get you started:

Fort Worth, Texas, June 24, 1972 - Late Show

"Handsome Girls" (4cd set from 1978 tour)

"Ride Like The Wind" (4cd set from 1981 tour)

Wembley Stadium, London, July 7, 1990

Tokyo Dome, Japan, March 12, 1995

pike...i appreciate your quest for good sounding bootleg recordings
but anything that's not "official" is BONUS!....GRAVY!.....SPECIAL!..etc..!

why the "beef"? "rant"?

maybe you should narrow your options to SOUNDBOARD recordings and
forget about audience recordings all together.

My first vinyl bootleg purchase (early '80s) was "Welcome To New York"...loved it.
Saved up my pennies for another....bought "Have You Seen Keef.."
Poor quality as I remember. Discouraging.

check out UrbanSteel's collection on the "Buy/Sell/Trade" side of this site. Cheers.

5 live yardbirds is an album recorded in the Marquee club circa 1965,great sound compare it with "have you seen your mother live"On yesterdays list I left out "live at the Circus Stockholm" this is an amazing audience boot.It knocks the shite out of Licks live,

Ehhhh...sounboard recordings are fantastic. Yes indeed. Is the Voodoo one from New Orleans a soundboard? If it's an audience one it sounds incredible. And the Giants Stadium one sounds fantastic. As does the 7th Of July. As is the 1972 and 73 ones from the radio shows.

Those all sound great to me. Most of the audience boots, yeah they stink. But then you're glad to hear a slip up or something bizarre or whatever.

<the new jersey 1978>

Sounds thin to me. Try Handsome Girls for excellent soundboard recordings from the 1978 tour.

Agree that Handsome Girls is better, but some versions of jersey aren't as thin as others...sorry I cant recall right now which one I think was an improvement..

Yeah DandelionPowderman must have a crappy version. Passaic 78 is freakin excellent on the right bootlegs.

yes, see the 1977 Whistle Test interview where mick expresses how frustrated he is with the sound of Love You Live, because the standard protocol for live albums is to close-mike all the instruments and mix them like a studio performance. He says he would prefer a few mikes out in the audience to capture the sound off the stage. What he's describing is a high-end version of an audience recording, which today's recorders probably come close to.
