That CYHMK video is pedestrian at best.

Ha ha Elmo! That's hilarious! You know what also contains an E chord? Not very many Stones songs actually. I can't think of any.
Well then, post a link to one that isn't our post one yourself.

As to the E chord, I hope you're joking. Your humor, if it is indeed that, comes off as belittling...

I don't use tabs myself. No patience.

Here's a stab at Soul Survivor.

I like Fen's CYHMK. Beats Keith's live version, IMO.

Nice one C,

What are you playing on & through, sounds good

PS - I'm like you, if I can't hear it & Figure it out I'm on to the next tune

Has anybody ever played a minor chord in open G ?
I don't know if Keith ever has..

----x------------------------
----6------------------------
----7------------------------
----7------------------------
----7------------------------
----7------------------------

The 7th fret can be played with the 3th finger (4 strings)
The 6th fret with the 2nd finger.
Mute the first string with your left hand..and you got a D-Minor.

Thanks Grip.

Playing on 5 hours sleep, and a pretty decent hangover . . .

Dig your Historic funman. Do you make much use of the Bigsby? And the pickups aren't stock so tell us about it!

Why would I do that? So I can be famous like everyone else and be on youtube? No thanks.

Yes, I was joking. It wasn't any poke at Elmo. Damn the Stones need to do something. Some people here take themselves way too seriously.

Hey ChrisM, don't use the Bigsby much, but I do use it. The guitar came with BurstBuckers, which I hated, so I bought Tim Shaw's (1980) and put them in myself.
It's got the fat neck, which is a nice change from my other Les Paul.

Soul Survivor was played through a Tube King pedal, and a Classic 30 amp. A bit more distortion than I like, but oh well.

Glad to see a musicians thread...hope it flourishes!

Here's my contribution....someone posted my videos on here before. On my YouTube channel I have videos for Midnight Rambler, JJF and CYHMK. The last 2 are not perfect spot on but something to give players a head start on learning the riffs.

It's not a question of taking myself seriously. It's more about how you tend to respond to others.

I'd put this down to possibly mis-understanding the tone of an online post. I didn't get a sense of any intentional malice, more just a lil banter between skip and elmo. smiling smiley

Point taken HM. It's difficult to read between the lines at times. In this case, I was referring to general responses this poster has made. Perhaps his "humour" is lost on me...

Palookaville in Santa Cruz, 2001.

I'm lucky to have found the table.
Just kinda walked around a corner and there it was.
CDs and T-shirts - $10.

They had a huge poster in a glass case out in front.
Very flattering old Taylor pic. Must have been 6' x 8'.
Couldn't get it.

If anyone could provide an accurate tab for Mick Taylor's solo on YCAGWYW Brussells Affair or the second solo on Love in Vain from Ladies and Gentleman I'd do, well, almost anything for them

"Ventilator Blues" Riff

Great riff by Mick Taylor played mean and nasty.
It really makes the whole song!

I always thought that the riff is played Keith Richards. It sounds 100% Keith. And I am convinced that MT earned his credit for coming up with the chord progression that makes the chorus (quite his style).

C

I think it's Keith too.

It sounds a bit more stiff compared to Taylor.

Why did Mick Taylor get a credit for it? I guess it's because of the riff as it is essential for the song (same example as Thief in the Night mentioned above). So it is natural to me that Mick plays the riff as it is his, leading the others through the song by doing so.
I have the notion that nobody on this board trusts Keith to play more than some easy chords.
Somehow I have in mind having read that you can differ the guitar players by the channel of your stereo?!: One on the right, the other on the left (if you know make sure which one is the right/left - from the listener's point or from the stereo's position.

The 7th fret can be played with the 3th finger (4 strings)
The 6th fret with the 2nd finger.
Mute the first string with your left hand..and you got a D-Minor.

Yes! Make a regular Am standard tuning first position shape and add the A string 2nd fret. It's what Hand of Fate is based on. Same chord is used in Wild Horses.

And Keith also plays minors tuned to open G in Mixed Emotions.

His possible best example of it though is Struggle. Not sure of any more.

Great thread.....I've been messing around with Keith's solo on Honky Tonk women - Love You Live version. It is a brilliant solo with lots of double stops etc etc...I'm pretty sure it must be played in open G as HTW itself is an open G song with Keith playing most of the guitar. It is possible there was an over dub added but I still think it's open G for the solo. There is a guy on YouTube who has nailed it but I still cant get the sound, it looks so straight forward and I'm sure it is - Keith doesnt do complicated that often. If any of you could tab it that would be fantastic.

OK two questions for the Guitar experts as I'm a bass player 1st and guitar player second.

Regarding Open G tuning and the minor chord posted above...

Open G Tuning Low to High (Pitch) DGDGB - and then what? is the high pitched E tuned down to D just like the low? Can you tell I play 99.99% open tuning? The other .01% might might involve just a drop D tuning.

71Tele mentioned shaping the normal Am chord and adding the A string which seems far more feasable to me than trying do a four string barre infront of a single note. Is one more common than the other. Thoughts?

Peace,
Mr DJA

Re: Guitar Tab/Chords Posts & Discussion for Musicians

Avro DJA. From low to high open G it's spelled DGDGBD. (Keith leaves off the low D string) As to a minor chord you can or course do it that way but another is to barre the first 3 strings at the 5th with your index finger and then with the ring finger fret the 4th string at the 7th fret and with the little finger the 1st string at the 7th fret to produce an Am chord.

To crumbling mice, you can be assured that Keith plays the Honky Tonk Women solo in open G. In regards to the youtube vid, which one are you referring my rodential friend? If the guy shows his fretting hand, you can pick up what he's doing from that or better still try doing learning it by ear!
