I've seen some pics with Warhol, Bowie, Reed and Jagger.....

Anything more?

BTW I should love an album by Reed/Richards....

I would imagine that any connection would be via Warhol and/or bowie, cant see him hanging out with Keef or mick otherwise.

Yep.....Heroin and Dead Flowers...

Can't understand why Mick/Keith didn't do some projects with Lou...and vice versa

Maybe Mick was in love with Lou........and Keith was jealous.......

Keith has said that Stray Cat Blues was heavily based on Heroin by Reed and VU.

I think that 'run run run' (Velvets) is heavily inspired by the Stones 1964/1965

The intro riff of the Velvet's "There She Goes Again" and the Stones'
"Hitch Hike" sound VERY similar to me !

Yeah Rank Stranger I mean 'there she goes again' (not run run run). It's absolutely some kind of dopey Hitch Hike

I thought mick talked at other times of appreciating the VU, particularly Lou Reed's "street" lyrics.

There's a few of the three of them together on this website: [www.5years.com] [Page 1 at the bottom and page 2]

Hitch Hike is a Marvin Gaye song - although I presume you mean the Stones' version of it, in which case, thats a fair point .

I think it was Jagger actually who said in an interview in 1980 that they'd 'nicked' the riff of 'Heroin' for 'Stray Cat Blues' (Cant hear it myself, personally!)

Theres a rather more obvious connection in the camp look Lou used in the early 70s which would have been much in vogue with Bowie and Jagger around the same period.

When The Whip Comes Down was like a pastiche of Lou's 70s albums.

Funny you should mention Lou -- been listening to the famous December '73 Academy of Music show lately. For those few who don't know, listen to "Rock n Roll Animal" (extended version) and "Lou Reed Live".

Here's the actual setlist:

1. Intro/Sweet Jane
2. How Do You Think It Feels?
3. Caroline Says I
4. I'm Waiting for the Man
5. Lady Day
6. Heroin
7. Vicious
8. Satellite of Love
9. Walk on the Wild Side
10. Oh Jim
11. Sad Song
12. White Light/White Heat
13. Rock n Roll

Apparently you could tell when Lou was on speed by how thin or fat he was.

Ah, another true Lou fan! Bet you've burned yourself a chronological version of the gig from the two albums. I know I have.

Either way, R n R Animal is a great album.

I don't think the Rock n Roll Animal is a great album at all - it certainly doesn't exemplify Lou's core musical values - it's bloated corporate styled arena rock without any of the subleties that made many of the original songs so endearing. Many core Lou fans give the album a wide berth.

He has an ample figure at that time.

This was at the Café Royal, London, in July 1973, just after "Ziggy had to break up the band" - Bowie announced the end of Ziggy and the Spiders.
In Anthony Scaduto's Jagger bio, there's this photo of Bowie making out with Lou, and Mick looking embarrassed. I could not find the book now, but surely - someone else must have it... It's a great photo!

According to Bowie - and very likely, I'd say - Bowie was whispering something to Reed - while Reed answered, when that photo was taken. Of course it would be caught on photo if they "made out". The press love to come up with BS.

I'm one and I think its one of the greatest live albums of all time.

'Corporate styled arena rock'? In 1973? confused smiley

American Poet is better, Gazza, it's closer to Lou's core values where the beauty and the subtelties of his compositions truly shine. This is also true of the 69 Velvet Underground Live album. On Rock n Roll Animal Lou's contribution is almost incidental to the heavy handed guitar charged approach - it could be almost anybody wailing away in the background, behind some competant, arena rock session musicians. Rock N Roll Animal is too much of a flashy, conventional and slick offering to be genuinely Lou - anyone who's seen him play guitar himself knows Lou's approach is much more inventive, challenging and exciting.

Ah yes. American Poet is better. I think that too. But that's not saying R 'n R Animal isn't very, very good too. Since I started being a serious music fan I've always loved Lou. He has so many great albums. Not even mentioning VU I'd say that Transformer, The Blue Mask, Berlin, Coney Island Baby (One of the best LP covers ever too), Songs For Drella, some of Magic & Loss, New York and Set The Twilight Reeling are all top notch albums.

BTW: All of you name your fave Lou album and top three songs please. smiling smiley

Mine are:
Album - Berlin.
Songs - Halloween Parade, Dirty Blvd., Caroline Says.

Amazing man if you ask me. On YouTube I once found a concert (From last year) where only Lou and Pete Townsend played. I love Lou, but live he doesn't seem like he's very good these days.

PS: Check out the Lou Reed docu DVD "Rock 'n Roll Heart". It's a thrilling piece of work.
