There is something that bothers me about "Laugh I Nearly Died". I really WANT to like it. When I first heard ABB I immediately zeroed in on LIND as the best song by far of the album.
Yet I get the feeling that Jagger did this one in his sleep. Like he knows excatly what buttons to push to do the whole "late day classic", "Jagger at his very world weary best" effect. The lyrics are "Wandering Spirit" and "Feel On Baby" over again. There's no surprise in there for me. Just one opinion.

I hate to be the flat note on these discussions because I seem to be standing alone all the time. Laugh I Nearly Died sounds like such a Jagger solo effort that it irritates my ears and some of you think he is at his best, I really don't know how is that. A Bigger Bang its such a hallow egg, however This Place is Empty - a predictable Keith effort keeps me at peace, I don't have to try to like it like the rest of the album. Sometimes I put these recent Stones albums and the anticipation is so great, like I tell myself this the greatest band ever and shit that I find myself trying and trying, and I should nt be trying all time. The last great song? I can't listen to Start me up anymore and feel what I used to, unless am a bit wasted and catches me by surprise some place. Its been almost 30 years since Tattoo You, the album in which all post albums where judge and compared... wtf? It might be the last album that captured the essence of the Stones, or some may say and we all know how that album was made or put together. Undercover has some good stuff on it; Dirty Work has One Hit, Steel Wheels has Slipping Away, Terrifying; Voodoo Lounge has The Worst. There has been one song that when it ended left me full of emotion, and it was stuff the Stones have never done like that, it was new and fresh, maybe it was Wayne Shorter's incredible contribution at the end but How Can I Stop just grabbed me from beginning to end, what a great fkin song.

Come ON (1963)
Seriously i'd say "Infamy". Imho most of the recent KR songs carry a sense of elegance you found in the gloriou 68-72 era.
Otoh the MJ songs are a bit vulgar imo.

I'd definately agree with Out of Control. To me Rough Justice could have been but to me misses because of the lyrics.

It's so very lonely, you're 2,000 Light Years from home

Love Is Strong - great song, lack of feel, I love it though
Out Of Control - to slow at the start, love this though as well
You Got Me Rocking/Don't Stop/Rough Justice - very sad come back songs
Mixed Emotions - to forced to be good
Terrifying - maybe, but not all that catchy

in all honesty Hang Fire.

Shit, correction the Bob Clearmountain single mix of Out Of Tears. The song in general is fantastic but that mix is the best studio version. Nothing beats the live version from the East Rutherford VHS though. (Uh-may-zing)!

True, Jagger has written these lyrics before and better. Still, a great song. Blue: superb blues song. Much better then Back of My Hand for sure!

"Laugh I Nearly Died" is NOT Rolling Stones. It's a Jagger solo work. I don't like it.
Last greats are : Don't Wanna Go Home, Under The Radar, Oh No Not You Again, Rough Justice, Back Of My Hand. They are all classic Rolling Stones music.
