I Don't Know Why.

Of the tracks off 'Metamorphosis' this sounds like a later, 68 - 71, Stones out-take rather than Mick singing and A. Loog-Oldman Orchestra ect playing. Obviously 'polished' perhaps by someone else but could have been a great genuine Stones album track imo. Anyone know it's history?

Stevie Wonder song recorded for Let It Bleed. Great tune, awesome guitar work by Taylor on the slide.

Should have googled first....... silly me.

It is a great track and fooled me for a while as it sounds very 'Stonesy'.

One of my all-time favorite Stones tracks actually. Great guitar work by Keith and (especially) Taylor, and Charlie's playing is right on as well.

Interestingly, when released as a single in the summer of 1975, the first 1000 copies mistakenly had Jagger-Richards as the songwriters.

only history I recall on this was that this was the song that they were working on in the early morning hours of July 3, '69, when they got the phone call that Brian had died. (or maybe it was the late night of the 2nd) ...

anyhow, excellent song. and MT's slide is cool smiling smiley

This is my favourite bit of MT slide. Simple and tuneful but so well done.

....and Taylor! and I suspect it was more than 1000 copies that were pressed, I worked in a record shop at the time and I never saw correctly credited version.
Has anybody else?

Roy Carr (Illustrated Record) put the error down to sheer laziness on the part of Decca who couldn't be bothered to perform even the simplest of checks.

In the meantime, here's the snippet from NME at the time:

Me too. It's a little gem.

Odd that Decca didnt check it yet managed to actually credit as Jagger-Richard-Taylor instead of Jagger-Richard.

Especially considering Taylor had left the band when it was released.

well, the correct response, would have been, of course:

"i don't know why"

It's the same thing twice over, no? They edited the solo onto the body of the song again because it was too short.

Keith's tremolo guitar arpegio is one of his most moments; as well as i'm going down riff.

Metamorphosis is a very nice album, a kind of 60s Tatoo You. Is cojonudo

forget about the guitar work - which is brilliant, Jagger's vocals are superb!!

One of my favourite. I think Mick Jagger is at his best on this one!
Steevie Wonder's version is also superb.

Quite, it's up there with his vocal on Memo from Turner.

Yeah, a wonderful little lost gem.

It has that specific 'dark' (I don't know better word) sound and atmosphere typical to their stuff around the time (1968-1969). They sound threatening and dangerous...
