Seven years already? What an amazing show that was... Vredenburg is in the process of being demolished, with exception of the Grote Zaal, which is to be incorperated in the new Muziekcentrum.

Absolutely love this song. A very close second to Memory Motel for my favorite Stones tune. Also #1 on the most wanted list to hear live.

05.) When The Whip Comes Down
06.) Waiting On A Friend
07.) It's All Over Now

Out of many, Vredenburg is my all-time favorite Stones show that I've seen.
The really should release the whole show on cd/dvd, it clearly blows away the Shine A Light fiasco.

seen them do it a couple of times on recent tours - the kind of tune they would be well-served to play more of...always gets a great audience response...and let's face it - hardly takes much skill to execute...hell, i can strum this thing....

Good list I've heard about 6 of those. But how have not heard BOB. Not exactly a raritie.

It was played regularly in 1978, 1981, 1982, 1994 and 1995.
But since the Voodoo tour, it has only been played this many times:

1997 - 0
1998 - 0
1999 - 0
2002 - 2
2003 - 0
2005 - 8
2006 - 1
2007 - 1

I was VERY fortunate to see No Expectations in San Jose, CA on Feb 4, 2003. How many times has it been played live??? It was the highlight of the show for me and got a great reaction from the crowd.

This show is one of the arguments of the stones getting better and better live. first the Paradiso gig 1995 was hailed as the best Stones concert ever in Holland, but that was overruled by Malieveld 1998, which in turn was overruled by Vredenburg 2003.

I think it's realistic -- they played it on the Licks tour, I think...Hmmm...Boston Orpheum maybe?

WOW, that was wonderful. Great playing and interchange from Keith and Woody; Jagger actually sings, thanks for posting, just a great feel and vibe and then . . . it cuts out to JJF, oh my heart just sunk. I couldn't finish watching it. Just not my cup of tea . . .

I love Portugal, Lisboa, Fado music, and all things Portuguese. Lisbon is the most underrated city in Europe. And I love that American tourists don't go there (I am American). I had tickets to Leonard Cohen in Lisbon and couldn't go. I'll be back, though. If there are any Portuguese fans here, Bom Dia and Obrigado.

I love that Mick still plays old Gibson acoustics onstage. I don't like those plinkety-plink acoustic-electric guitars Keith has played for the last few tours.

One of my all time favorites. Also it in San Jose in 2003. Highlight of the 5 Licks shows I attended!

this obviously from television has anyone collected all of these odd television clips from over the years, or a small portion, I would really appreciate it if we could start a thread of all these videos or even downloads of them.

It's obsolete, in a seventies way, with all its labyrinths, corners and kruip-door-sluip-door-trappetjes (hide and crouch stairways). The new Vredenburg will be part of a new make up of the entire centre of Utrecht, including the station, new library and Hoog Catherijne, a building knowing to cause sick building syndrome just by looking at it.

Take a listen to the version on 'Nicaraguan Benefit', 1973, Jan. 18. Then you hear the guitars play the essence of the song, the melancholic feeling, because there are 'no expectations' anymore. In that performance you hear MT tell what this song is all about. Now, THAT's making MUSIC. I didn't hear it in this clip.

No offense to Brian or Ron Wood ...but Mick Talyor's playing at the '73 benefit show are is tough to beat.
