Hi, Have a guitar playing friend here from Sweden and about 6 guitars (elecric and acoustic - all normal 6 stringers + 1 BASS and 1 TWELVE STRING) which all need tuning. Used to have a little digital tuner but can't find it and don't have a piano. So, what do you guys recommend? I checked AMAZON and there's so many of these out there it makes your head spin. I just want something simple, logical, and not too expensive - don't need a lot of extra fancy stuff on it just need to get the guitars sounding good so appreciate any advice.....Also, which pack of strings do you use? Brand and gauge? Thanks a million for any help, gotta order it from AMAZON tonight.....

I use AP guitar tuner - but it's software, not hardware...

In your case any cheap guitar tuner will do. I have a 15 euro casio and it is fine.

It is worth spending extra money only if you need it while playing live.

As for guitar strings, this is a quite subjective matter. I've been turned on to Gibson recently for the electric. Not bad. I use 0.9 on the gibson LP and 0.10 (the BB King signature) on the strat.

But also the cheaper Ernie Ball are fine.

As for the acoustics, I've never actually found a good compromise between brillant sound and durability. So any suggestion is wellcome.

Yeah, almost any tuner will do the job nowadays, but get one that lights up if you want to use it onstage.

Yes, Boss is the one. Bit pricey, but money well spent, especioally if you're gigging.

Thnks loads, can alway count on you guys on IORR to know your stuff - gonna order in about 5 or 6 hours so if anybody else wants to add please feel free.... On the strings I have always used ERNIE BALL but GIBSON'S better? Have no problem switching over if that is the case, let me know what you think about strings...

Ernie Ball are fine.

There's a ton of tuners out there but this Marshall MT1 seems to be good.
It's got a needle and the LED's - which makes reading it better, IMO.

I personally wouldn't pay more for strings just because they have a prominent name on 'em, like Fender or Gibson.
They don't produce them, but relabel them.
There are not too many steel-mills that produce strings, so most likely you're buying the same strings with different names.

Ernie Ball, D'addario, GHS - to name a few, should be good to go.
For durabillity you could try Elixir Nanoweb.
they have this nano-coating on them that's supposed to keep the strings fresh for a longer time.

Just download it but I missed some option for the guitar, I will come back tomorrow for it.

Most cheaper tuners react a bit slow to the note played, wich can be a bit irritating on stage. I've used the Boss TU-2 tuner on stage for years, also because you can use it to power other pedals. At home I use the Boss TU-12, a great tuner for intonation jobs.

Thanks to everybody for their help. I ended up ordering the MARSHALL MT 1 since the BOSS TU12 (non-stage, see above) looks like it's not being made anymore and AMAZON doesn't seem to carry any CASIO tuners. The BOSS TU2 is still sold on AMAZON but I don't need an on-stage model (at least not yet) GREAT HELP, GREAT ADVICE from all you guys - A BIG THANKS from the Helter !!! PS. Many thanks to BV for letting my OT stay up also....it's one of the things that makes IORR great, open communication and information sharing !!

The Korg models are good too.
