Go to the Stay With Me/Gasoline Alley medley, 6:02-6:32.

Also, I just made the connection at the intro of the Black Crowes "Kicking My Heart Around" as paying homage to the slide licks of Ry Cooder from Memo From Turner.

It's so annoying when there's no replies to a thread, a good advise is to never start a thread unless it contains "the 5 worst/best...." or "your favourite..." in the title.
I've heard that Memo From Turner lick by ROnnie in 1975 before....and it's real cool, and very unexpected - can't remember Ronnie mentioning this thing anywhere - or have I ?

It must be said, I don't really see this. I like the Black Crowes, and they do have a certain Stones-iness, but you'd never mistake one for the other.

Although I do see some Stones influence in the Crowes sound, I agree with you. They are different. However, that is not what this post is about. This post has to do with the lick played by Ronnie while still with the Faces.

If you have Memo from Turner and you have the Crowes disc, By Your Side, then go and listen to the opening of Kicking My Heart Around and you will hear the slide lick from Cooder played by Rich Robinson. It's no coincidence that when Rich played some solo shows that he played Memo From Turner.

It's a good pick.

Check out Ron Wood's bravura performance on 'Love In Vain' from the Faces box, exquisitely controlled dynamics over 8 minutes long and very different from any Stones version. Ron also sometimes quoted (I'm sure from Beggars Banquet) 'Prodigal Son' during his long 'Around the Plynth' solo.

The Crowes are more Faces and Humble Pie than Stones. I have heard this before and its very cool.
