weirdly enough, there's a recording in circulation of Mick and Bill shopping for bootlegs in the 70s although they wouldn't have been CDs at that time, of course.
yes Mick said in an magazine interview I have that he bought the Tokyo march 12, 1995 and was pleased "pretty good one". And in fact he is right, both sound and performance are great.
Long time ago Keith said that so many boots on the market was a proof of success !
I have a 40 minute audio tape of Mick buying Stones boots (one of which I think from memory was the 1971 London Roundhouse gig) in a record shop in New York in 1975 or so.
For some bizarre reason, the store owner taped it. Maybe to use as 'Exhibit A' in his defence if he ever got busted.

A few years ago I had an interview arrangement with Bill Wyman before he performed with his RKs in our town. The concert was presented by a radio station and the guy of the station had the right to do the first interview. After "Why do you call your record Just For A Thrill" kind of questions he was asking about an announced Stones live record in the 70s by the name of "Brussels Affair". Bill's face turned even stonier and though the guy kept onm insisting Bill was sure he "never heard of that". With me was a well-known German Stones expert who was also on the list to interview Bill for his fanzine - and we were in serious trouble not to start laughing.

Yes, I can recall an interview with Keith years ago where he proudly said something like "I think there's one for every show we do/have ever done."

Well, did anyone take the opportunity to give Bill a CD copy of Brussels Affair? He might have been pleasantly surprised... "Psssst...hey Bill, check this out...you played on this recording...it's quite good..."
When Keith premiered 'The Nearness of You' at Cirkus Krone, Munich during Licks you can hear him saying something like 'unless you buy bootlegs you won't know this one...'
So Keith must know a thing or two about Stones bootlegs

Depends on your definition of a 'bootleg' - as it entirely depends on whats been leaked or circulated abd the factory pressed as well as what shows have been recorded by audience members.
Theyve taped pretty much every show for their own use since the early 70s (the Stu tribute gig in 1986 being an exception as the crew were specifically told not to do so, apparently)

well, yes. They have to be recorded, filed or archived by those guys, so they get bootlegged either because someone in the crew chooses to circulate them or because they get stolen by an outsider. However, my point was that Keith listening to a recording by his own band that he asked his road crew to tape isnt a 'bootleg', as there's no illicit activity involved.

Look at it this way... After that show, they looked eachother in the eye and said, we've been performing so unbelievably great tonight, we should record all our shows... ...starting tomorrow... :..(

Well, for example, there are no KNOWN recordings or bootlegs of the Missoula show, to name just one example. Maybe it exists in the home of a person who taped it but has never shared it.
"If a show was taped and no one has heard it except the taper, is it a bootleg and furthermore, does it exist?"
a la: if a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, did it make a sound?
voodoo stew and brew are made with tapes stolen ! so I understand Mick. Keith was very angry with the "satanic sessions" release too... and said 'we are taking care of the guy' (meaning the insider who used the tapes).
