As we all know most of the all time music greats started in the fiftees and sixties, but what is your favorite post 80' artist?

I'll give them props for being a great band but U2 was never my cup of tea.

Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails. One of the most talented and unique musicians of his generation. Once voted one of the top 25 most influential people in the USA by Time magazine no less. Not just in music but in general. Apart from his NIN output he has an impressive catalogue of TV and film music. The NIN live performances are always hi-power, emotionally raw affairs as well as being visually dazzling.

Replacements is a good call, but for me its the TEENAGE FANCLUB.

I'll say U2, then PEARL JAM, NINE INCH NAILS/TRENT REZNOR, NIRVANA, THE WHITE STRIPES, SHERYL CROW, REM, GREEN DAY, NATALIE MERCHANT/10,000 MANIACS, SOUNDGARDEN/CHRIS CORNELL/AUDIOSLAVE, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE.....

Pearl Jam,Green Day,Sheryl Crow,Foo Fighters

ben harper, lucinda williams, ...

Smashing Pumpkins
Nirvana
Foo Fighters
Bjork
Stone Temple Pilots (not a big fan of the 1st two records)

Overall perhaps White Stripes - but the best thing the last 10 years is Amy Winehouse (hmmm...just made me wonder when the White Stripes actually started *lol*)

Don't forget The Smiths. Best band of the eighties.

If someone didn't release their first album before 1970, I'm probably not a big fan. Part of it may just be my personal hangup about not being able to really see myself as a fan of anyone younger than myself. I like my rock musicians to be a little older than I am. Something about needing people to look up to and learn from. I can't really learn from someone younger than I am. I'm 48, so, to me. even Bono seems like a smart alec kid.

So let's see .... a post 1980 artist that I can respect and admire .... Sting?

Wrong answer, this thread is about *post* eighties bands.

Frank said "post 80' artist". He put the apostrophe in the wrong place, but I think he meant post 1980, not post eighties.

Yeah I said post 1980 but it could really be from 1980 on since it's pretty much the same.

I meant your favorite artist to emerge from around 1980 till now.

Suzanne Vega is exactly my age and began recording in 1985. That's where I draw the line.

As for bands, I would say Radiohead (their early work) - strange that nobody has mentioned them so far.
