"Shine A Light" by Scorsese
Date: July 14, 2007 22:40

Pardon my ignorance but I've read numerous articles and threads about "Shine A Light" and I still haven't been able to figure out what it is/ will be. Is it a documentary? Is it a live show? Will it be something like "The Last Waltz" by The Band, which was also directed by Scorsese? If so, is this a kind of farewell like "The Last Waltz" was?

Please explain!

Originally slated to be a documentary with the Stones' Beacon shows last fall as a musical backdrop and supposedly with some archive footage, but from recent reports it appears to be pretty much a straight concert film

With a documentary, youd probably end up with about a dozen songs from the Beacon shows. I would imagine most fans would have a shit-fit if that was the case

I'd love a great documentary with archival footage but it would be hard to do a comprehensive documentary of a 45yr career in a 2 hour film.

I think it would be great to alternate performances of songs from the Beacon with performances from throughout their career.

As great as the setlist was at the Beacon show & all who were there raved about it being the best setlist,I don't think it comes close to some of the setlists in the club shows on the Licks tour at Roseland,Wiltern,Orpheum,Tower,Aragon.Imho, these were the type of setlists they should have used at the Beacon show.

a documentary is a must, if its a concert film it doesnt make sense really,we have plenty already

well, we have a documentary on the new DVD. A career-spanning documentary is more of a must than any other sort I think. Preferably one spanning at least a couple of discs.

My vote: career spanning/comprehensive documentary featuring Beacon
performance (& others?). multiple dvds.....i wouldn't even mind
if they released multiple disks over a period of time....the way the
Beatles released the Anthology CDs. 2 disks per Stones decade released
over a 10-12month period.....(total: 10 disks). Or all at once smiling smiley

IORR............but I like it!

I hope its not a documentry. Especially where they tease you and start a song just to have it cut off by some BS interview. We have already heard all of them interviewed several times about different things in their career, no sense doing any more of that. Would rather have this unique concert in full with no annoying interuptions.
