Stones guitarists and the Gibson ES-335. Any info?
Date: June 2, 2007 21:04

Just got myself a cherry red 335 off eBay, and it is something special. I'm wondering if anybody could give me a rough history of the Stones and the 335.

I know Keith uses the black one today and has done on tours in the recent past. I also know he used one in 1969 circa-Ya-Yas. What about BJ and MT. Any info would be welcomed. Thanks.

MT used one occasionally...never saw Brian with one myself but other folks may have ?

I expect you've just found out what wonderful guitars the ES335 series are.
There's not much you can't do with one of those ;^)

Keith's current ebony & red ES's are 355's, and so was the ebony one he had in 69/70.
isn't the white one he unveiled in Japan last year the first 335 he's used regularly?

Brian Jones played a ES-330, which is an entire different guitar to the 335 series. Richards and Taylor have always played the ES-355 guitars, and sometimes the ES-335. Except for some borrow ES-335 guitars, I have no pictures of Keith or Taylor with a 335. Of course, the 335 is virtually the same guitar as the 345, while the 355 is a 345 with gold hardware and an ebony fret board.

I know this is a little off subject, but i can't find the thread. Mathijs, did you ever figure out Keef's liver color "new" twin? It's an louis electric Amplifier,Twin master,Louis made him the KR 12,which is 40 watts but only one speaker. Have a look at louises web site. Really cool pictures of Keef too boot!

I don't think the liver coloured twin is a Louis Electric amp. I think all three twins are genuine '50's Tweed twins.

I've never seen him have a liver color 50's,but i might be wrong did fender even make that color? I don't think he would re tolex it a different color. But that color on the new twin is exactly like the KR 12,and Keef dig's louis amps.Louis made that 40 watt just for Keef. His web site explains it,pretty good.Louis electric amplifier company. He does'nt say anything about the twin master and Keef though, but it makes since if that's what he's running. I know the one on the main stage is vintage Fender and on the b-stage,but the new one.

Keith has had the liver Twin ever since at least the Voodoo Lounge tour, way before LE was even in the picture. It looks like a retolex, and it could have been done by the previous owner.

Apperently Keith has an entire '57 Twin collection, judging from the remark by Chis Robinson that a vintage '57 Twin is the hardest to find amp on the market since Keith Richards had bought them all.
