its hard to tell...., But a few hours ago, my sister(48) called me That Eric Clapton will to tour with the rolling stones 2010.. --and she likes it. "now the stones really get a superb guitarist"-she said. Absolutely disagree--Clapton is great, but dont fit into the STONES-image.Stones without Ronnie I asked?
No, think and hope he replace keith....

every guitarplayer with some self esteem and developed style would change the stones sound up to a point, you just cannot copy....

Wasn't EC rumoured to have been a replacement for Brian 40 years ago ?

I think he was asked about it when Mick Taylor quit too. I remember an interview with him in which he said he thought it wasn't a good idea. He may have changed his mind, but I really haven't. Besides, something about this just doesn't ring true...

In his autobiography, Clapton makes no secret about how painful it was at times to be on the road, in hotels and away from his family, when he did his last big world tour (in 2006?). He basically decided it would be his last tour, that he would only do single shows or rows of gigs from there on.

So I can't see him as a possible Rolling Stone.

The last time me and my sister didn't agree was way back ........she hit me with a hairbrush (the one with the metal pins) on my hand (back in the old days they didn't had round plastic tips on the pins) so it looks like a hit a hedgehog ...............thanks little sister

I sincerely hope your sister likes their masterpiece -- Aftermath.....and that she was really disappointed when she heard Exile for the first time....

I have for respect Eric Clapton these days for taking an entire year to play and play and play Robert Johnson. At first, I thought it was pathetic, that he would so idolize someone else that he would waste time (re-)learning someone else's stuff so obsessively -- note by note, nuance by nuance -- instead of taking that time to be obsessed with further creating and developing his own voice.

Then it occurred to me: regardless of the fact that he fixated on someone else, and worked on perfecting mimicry of recordings in a way that Robert Johnson would've totally laughed at -- it's also a fact that Clapton spent a year obsessed with guitar playing. That he worked and worked on his chops. That he humbled himself, sublimated his own ego for awhile, and did what he probably hasn't done since he was a teenager. Playing hours and hours a day. Challenging himself.

I'd not ever wish to see Clapton replace Keith (or even to join the Stones, just not a good match). BUT nothing would make me happier than to hear that Keith Richards spent a year, even a month(!), obsessively re-connecting with his guitar, really working to be as good as his fingers will allow him to be -- finding out what that looks and sounds like in the 21st Century and sharing that "best" with us, whatever it is....
