I live in Maidstone in kent, south east England and about 10 years ago, someone told me that the stones played a very early gig there (around 1962), at what is now a GALA bingo hall, next door to a now closed down cinema.

I have tried to look into this, but can't find any record of this show, does anyone know if they really played there, or was this bloke making it up?

Yep, the Stones played in Maidstone at the above dates in 1964 with The Ronnets on the same bill. They also played Chatham and Rochrster in 1963 and then Rochester again in 1965.

I'm in Gillingham by the way.

and according to the very wonderful RocksOff site, at Sidcup Art College in December 1962 before Charlie joined.

Jus to round the Kent thing off, they also played Sidcup art college in 1962 and also Folkstone and maybe Margate, though I'm not so sure about the latter. Fokstone definitely happend.

Hey- BIG AL, do you ever go to THE BEACON COURT TAVERN? I go there from time to time to see the various Tribute bands play.

Thats a great pub. I haven't been there in about four years though. The last tribute I saw there was a Zeppelin one. I've also seen a couple of great Who tributes too.

There is a poster on the Rocks Off forum called stewed & Keefed who is also from Gillingham. He lives about a five minute walk from me!

oh cool, I have seen WHO'S WHO play there twice, as well as THE HOO, CHANGES BOWIE a few times, the L.A DOORS a few times and THE DOORS ALIVE twice too. I know a few ROLLING STONES tribute bands have played there too.

Well, unless I'm mistaken, tjey've also had a Bonjovi and Robbie Williams tributes too. So it's not all good!

oh yes and OASIS, FOO FIGHTERS, MADNESS, THE POLICE, THE JAM. pretty much everyone really, even CHAS N DAVE!
