Rolling Stones - Superbowl - Revisted

Was watching the video on YouTube...and was reliving that great time for the Stones. The weeks leading up to it...the moments before the halftime show...and finally watching it unfold...watching it with friends...being proud of the guys for nailing a kick ass performance and continuously smiling because you knew and felt that everyone around the world took a peek at our little secret: how great they really are.

The songs were predictable yes, the performance did nothing to boost any CD sales and there were SOME out there (maybe some friends of ours) that still gave us shit for it...but hey...in 13 minutes they did a great job.

The above link is from the French broadcast...with Ronnie audible. They cut off half of his solo on "Start Me Up" on the ABC broadcast. The sound on this is night and day.

Everyone, go back to this day a full year ago and smile.

I thought it was a great performance.

One thing that I LOVED watching (and I can't remember where I saw it) was when they came off stage, they are walking through the backstage corridors, and mick congratulates keith and says something like "well done, you played great / you were great!". It was just really nice to see that. After all these years, they still give each other a pat on the back. Quite touching.

Yup! It's from Virtual Ticket...it's a great video indeed. Mick literally giving Keith on the pat on the back and saying "You sounded great man..."

*wipe tear*

hope the link leads ya to it!

Ahh thanks man. Just watched it.

Great footage.

Jagger as he walks into the dressing room: "Any cheese left?" !!

Haha.

It is incredible the money that is spent and the work that is put in for a 12 minute show.

Also quite bizarre to watch the four of them speeding across the field in a golf buggy, with security etc. running with them!

Just goes to show that they can play on their own without all the backing singers, horns, keyboards etc. I have read on other threads how much they need all the backup support now as they can't do it on their own, What nonsense, they can still rock!

Of course they are rocking, with or without help from the others. But performing 3 songs is much different than doing a two hours show. In the second case, they just rock with some help.

the backup singers were present at the Superbowl, just not on the stage.
and yeah, the Stones did great - thanks for the reruns! :E

I simply LOVE that performance. The sound on the broadcast I saw was pretty crappy, but you could hear the best band ever shining through it all.

It was the night before my "bar examination"; I stayed awake until the Stones' performance was over. Fortunately on the next day everything turned out well, and I woke up thinking of the great performance by the Stones!

uh..suggest you listen to the Superbowl performance again. You can quite easily hear backing vocals especially on Satisfaction.

They can still 'rock' but that doesnt mean that they cant without a few others on stage or behind the stage with them. They CHOOSE to have all those extra musicians for the simple reason that they NEED them. Do you seriously think the reason why Blondie Chaplin is playing far more guitar at Stones shows than ever before is because he personally insists on it?

The Stones were great at Juilliard with that stripped-down set-up (in fact, that was as good a version of Brown Sugar as Ive ever heard them perform), but they seem to realise that such a set up isnt going to work for a 2-hour show. Of course they need extra back-up musicians and singers.

Not that that's a bad thing, considering what the realistic alternative is. A stripped down show sounds fantastic but its mere wishful thinking at this stage.

does not sound half as bad as I remembered it, its all in the mix! the sound mix I remembered was like a minor catastrophe, but this is decent, and it rocks!!! but of course, backing musicians are there, just hidden below the stage. theyre just not very upfront in mix (which is good), but they are present.

I still use it as my son is a fan of both NFL and Stones....I just stick to the Stones (and he's a little too young for Miss December or whatever *lol*)

...and after just watching it again the main thing that stands out is Keef's focus and determination - not many of his keefisms to be found here.....just focusing on delivering
