When I just told a woman that lives in the same street as me about the tickets a had bought for the Nijmegen concert this morning, she began about Keith's Coconut incident. She said: "Don't let them make you believe something! Keith didn't fell out of a coconut tree, but the Stones (& company) made up the story to cover the fact that Keith had to go in rehab (I don't know what for... booze? maybe drugs we don't know about? not the smoking I guess...) because otherwise, he wouldn't be able to carry it on much longer.

She said she read it somewhere on the internet. I don't know what to believe; I guess it could definitely be true, because thinking about the "COCONUT INCIDENT" again, it just doesn't make any sense for a 63 year old (although it's Keith Richards ofcourse ;-)). What do you think about it?

Y'know , It's funny you should mention climbing a tree at that age . I was thinking about that during the press conference the other day when the subject arose . I'm 51 and in fairly good condition and I can't imagine climbing a tree for any reason except if it meant life or death .

Her theory may be plausible . I would like to see the article though.
Ask her to go through the history on her PC and see if she can retrieve the article .

That is true...I've even seen the tree...all of about 2 feet off the ground...it bent outward & then up. Keef was sitting on it & fell backwards, cracking his coconut on a rock.

keith often climbs trees, at his island homes, its quite culturally accepted for grown men to climb trees for fruit, leaves for shade etc.

Keith fell off something wooden in fiji but it wasn't a palm tree!

it was apparently one of those lowslung, nearly-horizontal trees that one sees on beaches.
the tree version works for me - it may not be 100% correct, but it covers the facts better than the version above
from "some woman who read something on the internet".
anyway the details of what happened are none of our business, no matter how much we care and/or would love to know.

i believe the head injury story - keith's mentioned it several times - i can't imagine him continually propagating a lie like that...

He did fall out of a tree. The next day he went out on a boat with Ronnie, Jo and Patti. The waters were rough and Keith began to have a bad headcahe and blurry vision. They went back to land and tok him to the hospital. Keith said that it was a close call. He said that it was worse than anyone knew.

Lets see..A woman in your street told you that she knows for a fact the incident didnt happen because she read about on the internet - and you take it seriously?

There were numerous photos of him leaving the hospital which specialised in head injuries. I suppose the silly cow reckons that was Johnny Depp in disguise.

The idea of the Stones organisation or Keith covering up a period of rehab is also equally laughable. Funny that they were open about Ronnie having it.

None of us know as fact something we didn't witness, but why ever would this be made up?? Good dose of common sense should be forcibly administered to all before they go online and believe everything out there.

Incidentally, several times a day I get email promising me extra inches on a part of anatomy that, as a woman I do not possess. Maybe that means your neighbour would "know" that I am really a man? After all, you could read the promises in my emails

Elvis is still alive. I met him recently in Las Vegas.
Or may be it was on Hollywood blvd.
And the Beatles will tour next year.
So great we get all these funny stories.
Because life is pretty boring...

No one doubted the time he fell off the library ladders and bust his ribs on a previous tour so why the suspicion over this. I DON'T doubt he was pissed as a fart when he took his tumble but to have made the whole thing up would be ludicrous. Had it been prefabricated some insider from The Stones camp would have been bought off by a tabloid Sunday to reveal all. These 'Coconut' conspiracy theories all started when it was mooted they were having trouble competing with the World Cup finals in Germany last year. But by then most concert tickets were sold anyway. It was a big thing of course but the way he changed the story and the fact he makes up stories all the time. His hair looks different now, maybe he had something done...

I forget where I read it and what really happened - but I'm positive that that story was bullshit and that somthing else happened...

That was the story of the yellow press. And I think, it doesn't matter to Keith anyway. He was injured, he recovered and now he is lucky.

so because you 'read' something else happened, that makes it true? I read on the internet last May that Keith was in a coma and would never play guitar again. I also read that he wasnt getting treatment in New Zealand at all but had in fact been airlifted to a specialist brain clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. A few months later, when the US tour started, I read people with a medical background saying that it was quite obvious from his onstage demeanour that he had suffered a stroke. I suppose all those stories were true as well because people 'read' them?
