Been listening to Steel Wheels a lot lately, and was never a huge fan of this song, but you know...Charlie's drumming on this song is amazing. I can't get over how strong he sounds.

Very effective 'opening' for shows- Wall of flame and right in to Start Me Up.

"I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon."

Well I was only 13 at the start of that tour, so needless to say, I didn't catch it. lmao

One of the greatest Stones songs ever.

i was waiting for that post, Gazza. you're not as on the ball as I expected, though....this should have been no worse than the 2nd or 3rd reply here. i'm beginning to wonder if this song is beginning to drift on you.

Truly a great opening. Nicely captured on Flashpoint.

The drums on that track are an excellent example of prgramming wizardry.

ST, I opened this thread JUST to see if there was a post from Gazza, because I know he digs this song. Gazza, your reputation precedes you. Cheers.

nonono - I wasn't talkin about the tribal drumming, which I assumed weren't Charlie, but just the drumming overall. There's a ferocity to it that is almost unlike anything else ever done by the boys.

Essentially, it's a Jagger solo act staring Mick and Matt Clifford. The Monitor Mixes reveal just how much of the percussion is computerized.

Very underrated song from a hugely underrated album. You hear that, all you ABB worshippers? You're praying to FALSE IDOLS! Bow down to the musical superioty of STEEL WHEELS! The last album when your favourite collective of sixty year olds outside last came up with something remotely ambitious and energetic. Mixed Emotions? I was positively f.ucking ECSTATIC when I first heard this abum. So button your lips doubters and get out and strut YEAH!

It's a true stones gem, and by far the best song on Steel Wheels
