My personal favourite is Dave Gilmour's on 'Comfortably Numb' especially when performed live.

Another,although involving several guitars(!?) and somewhat extended,would be 'Freebird'. Few would surely deny it a place on any list.

Keith solos on BBJ from Charlotte 1972

If we're speaking of live performances then its' a big pool to choose from. I can't underestimate the importance of Allen Collins' solo on "Freebird" to me because it inspired me, probably like alot of other players, to pick up the guitar in the first place. My favorite Keith solo is "Sympathy For The Devil" and I have several favorite Mick Taylor solos ("Gimme Shelter" 7/26/72 New York for one). I love Duane Allman as well and to me his screaming slide solo on "Layla" is one of the greatest ever. Along with Keith Richards and Allen Collins, Eric Clapton has been a major in fluence and favorite of mine. While I don't always love the songs, I do love his guitar work on anything from the Bluesbreakers, through Cream, his early solo work and Derek and the Dominos.
