Hampton or Jersey Devil from 1981

I have the Hampton concert from 1981, just wondering why some people consider the Jersey Devil gigs from the same tour to be better (I dont have these to compare with Hampton).

Better Performance or better recording quality?

Cheers

Hampton is the best 81 show! The performance and the sound are just incredible! The New Jersey stuff is 2nd choice in my opinion! After all I'd say that was the last outstanding Stones Tour(incl.82)so it's worth getting all the soundboards available.

musically speaking, hampton 18-12-1981 was a magical concert for the stones. by chance the recording quality is perfect.

probably some other shows have the same musical qualities, but hampton is circulating for so long, (since the next day after the broadcast). it became a "classic" very quickly.

in my opinion, no other 1981 soundboard recording can beat hampton, because we have MUSIC and SOUND at the best. and we have VIDEO !!!!!!

should be released officially.

Both are great shows and worth getting. But one of my favorites from that tour is Phoenix, listen to the start of When the Whip Comes down

hartford is the best recording of the many boards circulating, imo....

It's strange with the 81 boards...
I've seen about 10 shows mentioned as peoples favourite, people who have all or most of those boards, so it's a good run when looking for the best one.
Seattle, Cedar Falls, East Rutherford, Hartford, Lexington, Hampton, St Paul, Phoenix, San Francisco, Dallas...high scores
IMO the Hampton broadcast is the best, if we combine the soundquality with the performance anyway.

The Jersey Devil shows are good. There's three of them though and in my opinion, none of them are as good as Tempe 12/13 (Phoenix) or Hampton 12/18/81. Those are the best combination of sound and performance as far as I'm concerned.

One show I have been trying to track down is the 1981 Fox Theater show. Someone posted it in perfect soundboard and it sounded great. I traded for it and got some real crappy audience recording.

Anyone have this one as a soundboard???

I heard it was a hot performance.

I just wish the 19th of December was available in soundboard. I was at both Hampton 81 shows, and the second night SMOKED the tv broadcast of the 18th.

I have a decent audience of that show, but couldnt get the boards tape.

Haristone,
You are absolutely right. I remember when the Rocks Off movies started in the cinemas and I took all my friends (all none Stones fans) to it on the very first day. I saw Hampton before on video and I thought if Rocks Off is half as good they will understand and become fans. After the film everybody was complaining about the sound, the show etc. etc. and I thought damn shit why couldn't they release Hampton as a movie instead of Rocks Off. That is so much better.

I think it was called "Rocks Off" in Europe.

It may surface eventually. It was recorded and I believe a song or two appeared on Still Life.
