My wife and I are seriously considering a trip to London in August if a show is announced there for Wembley. Can any of our British friends make some suggestions for hotels, etc. that are off the tourist track? I don't want overpay at some international chain. We don't expect "all the comforts of home." If we did we'd stay home.
Hello R! my wife and I actually went to London last year for the Twick show, and we booked thru expedia, which was fairly reasonable, stayed at a Holiday Inn in Kensington, which was a 2 minute walk from the underground stop, and within walking distance of Kensington palace. I so completely loved the city, and could soooooooo see myself living there. Unfortunately, the wife cannot. lol.
We went last summer for Twick shows and had a blast in London. I would recommend tripadvisor.com and search London. Lots of information available, including info on every hotel in London/UK. A beautiful city with tons to see and do.
Me and the Girl Friend ALWAYS stay at "Hotel La Reserve" (Le Reserve?) in the Broadway/Fulham area. The Metro/Restaurant Row (Thai, Indian, Italian, American, etc) and Tube Station are a 5 minute walk. The hotel is very cool Ikea-ish type of modern decor for a bit over $100 per room (if you talk them down) + they have a great Italian Restaurant on the hotel property. A lot of upcoming bands stay there... A nice 3 star away from all the touristy crap (but VERY close by tube).....
On the Licks tour (I think), he organized a bus tour of Stones-related sites and a boat ride down the Thames with RS music blasting. Kinda like Handel's Water Music, except by the boys.
