Too many great songs to say which is favorite so I'll say which is my least favorite; My Ding-a-Ling. Of all the great songs Chuck has written, how is that this one, and correct me if I'm wrong, was his only number 1? My head shakes in bewilderment...

you know what chuck says if you think this here song is so bad, don't you?

"Wee Wee Hours". I have both of the Complete Chess sets put out by Hip-O Select recently. I just wish Berry had cut a lot more Blues sides than he did. When he put his mind to it, he could do Blues really well. Plus, I always stay in a state of bliss whenever I listen to Johnnie Johnson's piano playing. Hopefully, there's a cache of unreleased material from over the years where he did some pure Chicago Blues stuff that will someday get released. I'd practically kill to hear it.

Johnny B Goode is the absolute definition of rock n roll in two and a half minutes. Its the song I'd probably use first to explain rock n roll if asked by someone from outer space who had no concept of what it was.

My own personal favourite of the ones that maybe aren't among the most widely known classics though is 'My Mustang Ford'.

"Viva Rock n Roll" is one of mine. Great, underrated (or perhaps under-known?) classic.

Right behind it would be 'You Never Can Tell' and 'Promised Land'.

No Particular Place To Go was the first single by him that I bought, followed not lomg after by You Never Can Tell.
I still love both of them to bits even after all these years, love all his other stuff as well but those two were my first loves.

No Particular Place to Go is a guitar clinic.
Back in the U.S.A. is probably a pretty good song.
School Days is terrific.
Let It Rock is perfect.

If only for the reason that I played that (had never heard it before, but if it's Chuck Berry, it's ok, right) on one of those mini-juke boxes at the pizza parlor when I was like 10, the look on my mom's face was priceless. My old man enjoyed it, he thought it was funny>

"Havana Moon" is worthy of a mention but the first time I heard "Johnny B Goode," it blew me away.Absolute dynamite.

It's not really my favorite Chuck song. But it's just too damn funny. I actually agree with Gazza. Johnny B Goode is THE consumate rock & roll song. All other songs have their roots in JBG.

"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"

The '64 songs like Promised Land, No Particular Place To Go, Nadine and You Never Can Tell are all among my favourites, just like early material like Maybellene and Thirty Days. Carol, Come On and Deep Feeling are special to me as well. I guess one day, I'll buy me the Chess Box.

I've sat in bewilderment pondering that question myself.

I've always liked "Living in the USA", and I'm not even American. It's that imagery of a magical 50's style USA that I like, where hamburgers sizzle on an open grill night and day.

"You Never Can Tell" is not a typical CB song, but again, great images conjured up - a hi-fi blasting rock, rythm, and jazz; a fridge full of TV dinners and ginger ale! Another favourite.

Johnny B. Goode
Let It Rock
Down The Road Apiece
Thirty Days
School Day
Little Queenie
No Particular Place To Go
Talking About You
Promised Land

I've always liked "Pass Away" (last song on - AFAIK - CB's last studio album).
