The Song That First Got You Interested In The Stones

I can still remember in the summer of 1980, when i first took notice of the Rolling Stones through hearing the song 19th Nervous Breakdown which was being played on a radio show looking back nostalgically to the sounds of the sixties. At the time i was heavily into the Beatles, but before long i'd found a group that would ultimately mean much more to me than the Beatles ever did. The Stones less polished sound really did leave a lasting impression on me, and despite enjoying so much of their early output, 19th Nervous Breakdown still remains a special favourite of theirs.
Which was the first Stones song you heard that really left a lasting impression on you?

She's So Cold
I could not get enough of that guitar tone
I picked up my dad's old gut string and learned to play that song and others.
Now I've been playing for 29 years and I owe it all to that riff and that production!

after I bought the Emotional Rescue LP and researched the band I found I had already loved them from Brown Sugar!!

It took me another 5 years to dissect and play BS properly...

Miss You, age 14, heard it on the radio a few times and realized it was that band, "The Rolling Stones" and loved it. Got the Some Girls album, then Hot Rocks soon after and was hooked.

Going To A GoGo, entered a record store in the moment they
played 20 Flight Rock of the new release Still Life. Then
GoGo came and the rest is history.

Mother´s little helper, a great song. When I heard it as a child I didn´t reflect about the lyric, but now I realize it´s pretty true still today. In Sweden we eat tranquillizers like candy.

It was 1990 and I was 9 years old. I saw the videoclip Angie on MTV. The song was very very beautiful, because of the acoustic guitars. But one thing fascinated me; Mick Jagger! It was the first time that I saw a man with a feminine appearance. It confused me as a child, but I still loved the song so very much. Since then I loved the Stones.

Undercover of the Night in '83. Made me realise my dad had Stones Story 2 and 3 LP's, and I was hooked.

Honky Tonk Woman, that opening Drum Beat & Cowbell
I was 8 or 9 at the time & remember trying to play that
on one of the Neighbors Drum kits, I couldn't quite reach the
Traps & Bass drum at the same time, Lol

First noticed them on US TV - "Time Is On My Side", 1964 (I was 6).

Dick Cavett Show 1972 had a tape of "Brown Sugar". I was immediately hooked. Got "Hot Rocks" the next day and have never looked back.

I was already aware of the Stones because my Dad had Hot Rocks, but I never took a great interest in them. Anyway, summer of 1994 I was in a used books and record store and 'Love is Strong' came on the radio, with the announcer calling it the new Rolling Stones single. I was like 'what? these guys are still around?' (keep in mind I was only 15). anyway, dug the song from the get-go, went out and bought Voodoo Lounge the following week, played my dad's Hot Rocks cassette til it wore out and had to be replaced by a cd copy, and withing the next year bought every album there was.

The Rolling Stones
Tell me
(Jagger/Richards)

I want you back again
I want your love again
I know you find it hard to reason with me
But this time it's different, darling you'll see

You gotta tell me you're coming back to me
You gotta tell me you're coming back to me
You gotta tell me you're coming back to me
You gotta tell me you're coming back to me

You said we're through before
[ Find more Lyrics on [mp3lyrics.org] ]
You walked out on me before
I tried to tell you, but you didn't want to know
This time you're different and determined to go

You gotta tell me you're coming back to me
You gotta tell me you're coming back to me
You gotta tell me you're coming back to me
You gotta tell me you're coming back to me

I wait as the days go by
I long for the nights to go by
I hear the knock on my door that never comes
I hear the telephone that hasn't rung

You gotta tell me you're coming back to me
You gotta tell me you're coming back to me
You gotta tell me you're coming back to me
You gotta tell me you're coming back to me

"satisfaction"- heard it dads 1957 chevy as a 6 year old in the mid 1960's. "i can't get no" stuck in my head for years.

"honky tonk women" and "jj flash" after that in 1971. songs were on a jukebox in a small arcade where we went to play pinball, shoot pool and play caroms.

got my first guitar in shortly thereafter in 1972 as a 13 year old. i knew then that i wanted to learn the guitar and play like keith.

Great stories! I was 4. My older brother brought Between the Buttons into my room and spun songs on my little record player - I pretended my dolls were at a discoteque dancing wildly to Please Go Home; Miss Amanda Jones; Cool, Calm, Collected etc. So those were my first.

That summer (1967) -- a big outdoor party of families and kids -- the host [sort of groovy hipster] played Ruby Tuesday and Let's Spend the Night Together and all the little kids were dancing around, teenagers were embarrassed a parent would be playing their music, and people like my proper mother considered the noise awful. winking smiley I remember from the first time I heard it I loved the song, Mick's voice, the flute part, and the character Ruby Tuesday, altho I thought for a really long time she was "Groovy Tuesday."

It was the much derided "Miss You" for me. Heard on radio and bought Some Girls LP and found my alternative to both punk and disco.

I was in kindergarten when Satisfaction came out, and it's pretty much the first thing I remember.

But Only Rock n Roll was the one when I was like 13 or 14 - greatest thing I'd ever heard - perfect age to groove on that shit. When it came out, I played ball with this guy that would sing it every day while we were playing. good times man

Brue-

you are right on the money with regard to the song "IORR". In 1974 I was 15 y.o. and that was one heck of a song at that time. saw the video on don kirshner's rock concert TV program. very cool. my guitar instructor taught me how to play the song shortly thereafter.
