OT: Falco appreciation thread

He was Austria's only pop star. Probably not only world-famous in Austria winking smiley
Do you guys know him?
He was big in the 80ies - as every Austrian (I guess) I basically grew up with his songs. Here are a few videos, all from the excellent Donauinselfestival 1993. He had an excellent live band then, imo.

Titanic

Junge Römer (Young Romans)

Männer Des Westens

Vienna Calling

Der Kommissar

Oh yea, I was in Austria a few months after he died, beautiful country, Graz - Innsbrück - Vienna - Zillertal, and Out Of The Dark / Vienna Calling was played at the TV all the time. It reminds me about Bowie 1983, Modern Love and such....I don't care for other artists in that pop-style, but Bowie and Falco is cool, OK, Roxy Music too.
I guess I will be the only one to answer this thread,
Falco had some awful ones too...Emotional, Sound Of Music and Jenny,
but the good ones make up for those

My girlfriend hates him too, Peter- but you know, he is kind of a national hero. You have to like him, at least a bit winking smiley

Erik, you saw some nice places - I just realized I haven't seen Graz or the Zillertal yet grinning smiley

I know him from an 80s compilation that was on an infomercial. "Amadeus, Amadeus. A Ma Deus. Amadeus, Amadeus. A Ma Deus. Amadeus, Amadeus. Wop bop bop bop A Ma Deus. A-come and rock me Amadeus". LOL!

The Sound of Musik was hilarious. Didn't he turn into an alcoholic before he died?

I grew up close to the french/german border, and he was pretty well known in Germany too.
Jenny was also in the french charts by the time it came out.
I think a lot of people know Jenny, but almost the same amount of people - at least in France- think he is german and don't even know that he passed away years ago.

Yeah, people also think Schwarzenegger is German.
Well, that's our problem - we are almost too small to be recognised - and then we also speak German...

Nikolai, he was on drugs, drank too much - he died in a car crash, though. But his career was already over then, imo.

I don't know if this is a reason to be proud, but most people know Schwarzie is Austrian.
I even heard that in Graz, there is an Arnold Schwarzenegger Stadium.

No, after he died.

He was big here in Canada in the 80's with Amadeus and Vienna Calling. I loved him! I even named my cat after him. (I was 10 at the time, so dont laugh too much!)

It was renamed as he always was in favour of the death penalty.

"Muss ich denn sterben, um zu leben?“

Falco was great, very charismatic. It´s a shame he died in such a tragic way.

Here are some of Falco's last few music videos released during his lifetime. They are far from rock music, though.

-Mutter, der Mann mit dem Koks ist da (Mother, there is the man with the coke)

-Naked

Yes, it's his charisma and appearance that made him great

Suh-suh-suh-suh-supahstah!

"Rock Me Amadeus" has been a guilty pleasure since it was released. Plus, all the great cleavage in that video rocked my 14 year-old world at least once a day after school.

"Der Kommisar" always confused me - the version that was a hit in the U.S. back in the early '80s was by After The Fire, right? And the one sung in German was by Falco?
