Prince to follow sexually suggestive Stones

Prince according to several news sources, is the new halftime act for the Superbowl in Miami next February. Should be interesting for the "family friendly NFL" as Prince humps on several scantilly clad girls dancing around him during his performance. Will he wear that famous yellow jumpsuit that showed his entire ass or...............will he top that great stage the Stones used last year?!?!?!?!

Sun Dec 10, 9:38 PM ET

NEW YORK - McCartney, Jagger and now Prince.

For the third year in a row, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act will headline the Super Bowl halftime entertainment. This time it's Prince.

The Purple One, winner of six Grammy Awards and nominated for five more this year, will play at the game in Miami on Feb. 4.

The Super Bowl, which will be televised by CBS, is annually television's highest rated show. An estimated 141 million people watched last year's game between Pittsburgh and Seattle.

The Rolling Stones headlined the halftime show for that Super Bowl, and two years ago it was Paul McCartney.

The NFL has tended to take a more cautious approach since Janet Jackson's widely criticized "wardrobe malfunction" at halftime of the 2004 game. That game also was televised by CBS.

Last year, Mick Jagger's microphone was silenced as he sang sexually suggestive lyrics in a couple of songs the Stones performed.

Prince gained attention early his career with raunchy lyrics and racy performances, but has toned down his act somewhat in recent years.

Prince doesn't swear any more and hasn't done so since he became a Jehova's Witness in 1999, so expect a very tame performance. No Darling Nikki, Sister, Head, P-Control or Le Grind from him. Sadly.

There's way more to Prince than just raunch.

How about "Sexy MF"? That'll go over real well. Especially if Janet Jackson joins him onstage.

Laugh all you want.

I've seen Prince in concert last year, and I've seen the Stones this year in concert.

Prince today absolutely smokes the Stones today in concert.

It's the difference between Roger Clemens' fast ball, and Sandy Koufax' fast ball. They both could bring it at their peak. The difference is Clemens/Prince still can...and Koufax/Stones are ready for the rest home.

you mean he doesn't have the ejaculating guitar anymore?

maybe he could dedicate his song called "Cindy C" (from the unreleased BLACK ALBUM) to IORR's very own CindyC. (Prince's song is about Cindy Crawford) It goes something like this.."..oohhh Cindy C...Will you play with me?"

Hey Cindy do you have that track? I have it on vinyl. If anyone has it on mp3..please post on Hot Stuff.

Erik,

When he started talking about the Watchtower, were you thinking it was about a Dylan fan club?

Or did you just yell, "GO AWAY".

I haven't seen Prince live since he last came to the UK in 2002, but I know EXACTLY what you mean. He is phenomenal live.

Roger Clemens = human growth hormone at minimum, and most probably a host of other injected illegal steroids
Sandy Koufax = the real deal/no performance enhacement drugs

That's not a great analogy given that Koufax retired 40 years ago at the top of his game after winning the Cy Young Award for the second year in a row.

If you we accept Clemens/Prince on one side, maybe Pedro or Johnson/Stones would be more appropriate.

who cares if the stage he uses is better than the stones? that just shows you how weak the stones performance was if all you care about is the stage. and yeah prince is into religion now and doesn't hump girls and stuff on stage. although in the in the early 90's when he did that stuff his show was fun to watch

Fair enough, your analogy is a good one, probably more accurate than mine, but makes essentially the same point.

Prince reminds me of a grape wrapped in a doily.

...HUH?!?!?........I doubt very much that you understood my post........ The Stones on TV.......... a very difficult medium to begin with....in their sixties no less..........whatever you thought of their performance......... managed brilliantly to re inforce onto the minds of hundreds of millions of people their trademark image and logo..the lips........ for what in marketing terms amounts to a lifetime of recognition. A huge success and well deserved.
Even if you don't remember the performance, you remember the stage and the very big red lips. TV is all about images, conveying a message and holding peoples attention long enough that they don't switch to something else........... and they nailed it. If you feel the need to criticize their performance I say have at it,........ it's all good,........ but you cannot deny them that they were a huge and successful presence that captured a moment and competed brilliantly against a backdrop that was essentially the biggest sporting event of the year on American television.
If they had failed.........then that would have been a story in and of itself.......the great demise...time to retire....blah blah blah....but that's not what really happened is it?!?!?!?!?!!!

Prince, whatever you think of his performances has a big task at hand to out do the Stones. No matter what, I give him credit for taking such a risk, and I'm curious to see what he comes up with 'cause the newer music ain't all that and a bag of chips.

I suppose that Prince is very talented at what he does but,he can't match even the modern Stones - live songs like Dead Flowers,Rambler,Slipping Away,All Down The Line etc. but,his music is very different than most of the Stones music. He's too much of a freak for me,personally.

Well he might be alright as an opener for the Stones these days, in which he failed completely when he tried in 81 or so. He was (is) kind of a tragic figure if you ask me, a little bit like Jacko. But then... who cares ?
