My nine Stones concert....any thoughts on finding mp.3's of tunes?
Date: December 9, 2006 22:10
Here are the nine times that I have seen them, ranked in order of personal enjoyment:
1. October 5, 1989 Birmingham, AL
(The single finest rock and roll show I ever witnessed live)
2. July 31, 1975 Greensboro, NC
(Maybe not the best musical event ever, but finally seeing your favorite band live for the first time is an unforgettable event)
3. December 9, 1997 Atlanta, GA
(Bridges to Babylon, and the new tunes like "Out of Control" really smoked)
4. February 8, 2006 Atlanta, GA
(Most recent concert, and they were fabulous)
5. October 15, 2005 Atlanta, GA
(Rather early in the ABB tour, and a wonderful night, especially adding in Otis Redding's "Mr. Pitiful" to the setlist)
6. August 6, 1994 Birmingham, AL
(Early in the Voodoo Lounge tour, a little ragged, but we had fantastic seats...it was my oldest son's first Stones show .... he was 9 years old at the time, and mesmerized)
7. November 21, 1989 Atlanta, GA
(My second Steel Wheels show, still excellent, but not quite at the same energy level at the Birmingham show. I understand there is a bootleg CD somewhere of this show, called "Back in Business"....is this true?)
8. November 16, 1994 Atlanta, GA
(Second show of Voodoo Lounge that I saw. Energy was great, but the sound in the Georgia Dome was the culprit here, bounced around, just not that great)
9. June 26, 1978 Greensboro, NC
(Early in the Some Girls tour. Short set, no encore, lots of times it just seemed like Mick was running around with a guitar while the band jammed on two chords. A Stones concert that is #9 on your list is still much better than, say, your average Foghat show, but this one was a little disappointing. Again, I know this was released on bootleg vinyl by the name of "Southern Quotations" ....)
I would love to have even a few tunes from any of the above shows. Does anyone have any suggestions on downloads, trading, etc., that might be helpful? Thanks, and long live the Stones!
