Think we've had such threads before.....my favorite is Kris Kristofferson's "Blame it on the Stones," sung to tune of the popular hymn, "Bringing in the Sheaves."

yeah, I've seen this thread at least three times now. It's always good, though, sweet neo con. I remember you are a newbie. Here are some that I remember:

Wall Of Sleep by the Smithereens (mentions "Bill Wyman")

The Bodeans have an album (an excellent album, by the way) entitled Love And Hope And Sex And Dreams (as in Shattered)

a John Hiatt song (It's A Slow Turning??) mentions Charlie Watts

Hey Lukester....you mentioned the BoDeans. They are from my hometown...when they started out a local radio stationed aired their concert. I taped it....pretty sure they played SHATTERED. I'll check.

And technically...i think the Stones have mentioned themselves in their own songs. Am i right? not sure if you'd include Mick's mention of Keith on Dance (pt1).

Makes me wonder...which Stones-threads have not been done on this board?
Could there possibly be more "good" Stones related threads left in our heads?

Wow. Am I really going to be the first to post a few wildly obvious songs that mention the Stones?

All the Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople
American Pie - Don McLean

Maybe . . .

Keith Don't Go - Nils Lofgren

"Slow Turning" it is.

"...and the kids in the back seat bangin' like Charlie Watts."

As far as self-referential stuff, isn't "Jigsaw Puzzle" pretty tough to beat?

On Buffet's "Bama Breeze"(a song about a bar) , part of the first verse:

In 1984 Mick Jagger passed through town and bought the house a round
He signed his name on the wall...in the ladies bathroom stall.

Great song and great CD, by the way.

I've got one. Possibly thw most resent as well....

From their new double album, Stadium Arcadium, wich BTW is very good and you all should buy it, The Red Hot Chili Peppers song: She's Only 18.

The opening line: "She's only 18, don't like the Rolling Stones" -song about Anthony Kedis dating a barley legal girl and finding it cute and charming that she's so young that the Stones are not relavent to her.

I'm so sick I wrote a song and just about all the lyrics are Stones song titles. It's called "Rolling Stone of a Life." If I could type better I'd type the words. Sample line--Come on fortune teller, won't you tell me what to do. Cheers!

Is it? I started listening to JB a few years ago...been to several of his shows. I'm growing tired of EVERY SONG being about HIM. but..if you endorse it...maybe i'll give it a listen.

Oh, my man Neil Young:

"Borrowed Tune" from "Tonight's The Night:"

"...I'm singin' this borrowed tune I took from the Rolling Stones/Alone in this basement room/Too wasted to write my own."

He's referring to "Lady Jane."

All The Way Home by Bruce Springsteen:

Love leaves nothin' but shadows and vapor
We go on, as is our sad nature
Now it's some old Stones'
Song the band is trashin'
But if you feel like dancin'
Baby, I'm askin'

Keith Don't Go by Nils Lofgren.

I find that you have to be in the mood to listen to JB, but when you are it's great stuff. His live music is great for a summer party atmosphere. The new CD is his best in years. Give it a listen.

Deep Purple's Smoke on the Water references the stones
as does Mott the Hooples all the young dudes

'Where Do You Go To My Lovely' by Peter Sarstedt mentions the Rolling Stones -
"Where you keep your Rolling Stones records."

Since Joey Spampinato was considered as a replacement of Bill, side blows towards the Stones occur once in a while on NRBQ songs. Two examples:

-"Ain't No Horse" from NRBQ's 2nd self-titled album (the yellow one) has the lines

I heard about a group with too much cash
they came up with something really rash
they had the money; they had the power
they built themselves a great big tower
you know, they never got to heaven
you know something, it went wrong
but check it out you can still hear em
hear em babble on
(bablyon)
babble babble babble on

-"Hey Punkin Head" from NRBQ's album Dummy goes like this right at the beginning:

Get down
I don't mean "Get down"
Like when Mick Jagger says "Get down"
I mean
Get down!
Before I knock you down

I don't know if they mention the Rolling Stones even more often in there songs, but that's possible.

This thread has been done before at least once. A better topic would have been what movies mention them by name- like An Officer And A Gentleman.

Louis Gosset, Jr says "You've been listening to Mick Jagger music and bad mouthing your country."

Yeah I wonder how many people caught the irony of it? The movie references Jagger and then he references the movie about a year later. I assume it was a joke by Jagger referencing the movie unless the song was in the can before the movie aired and it was just a coincidence.

"Lyin' awake in a cold, cold sweat. Am I overdrawn, am I going in debt?
It gets worse, the older that you get. No escape from the state of confusion I'm in.

Hard to confuse Richard Gere with Bill Wyman lol. I don't
think Bill Wyman could have done a single push up- but then
again I'm sure Richard Gere can't play base like Wyman.

Also pretty sure Wyman wouldn't stuff any furry little creatures
in bizarre places.
