Go Ski-ing with LITTLE QUEENIE in VANCOUVER
Posted by: MicksBrain ()

Little Queenie left a message on one of the older threads wondering if anybody wants to go ski-ing after the Stones Vancouver show. If you'd like to "SKI WITH QUEENIE" please leave her your info/message here. Sounds like a very fun time with a very fun girl !!! (I would go but my ski's have been in the closet for a few.....ah....years and I'd hate to break my back or leg or something)....

I'd love to be there...if you were lucky, you'd catch a glimpse of my back, before I crossed the Alaska boarder.

MB - you are too funny. i don't even have a ticket for that show, but would consider going - for now, it's the last show, beatiful whistler mountain is not far away, victoria is nearby and one of my favorite cities, plus the last time i was in vancouver, i didn't know there was a "little amsterdam" there - where, in the gaslight district or something?

Hi Queenie. The area in Vancouver is called Gastown. As I write this, it's pouring rain in the Greater Vancouver area. We got hit by what is called the Pineapple Express which is a system that starts around Hawaii and then moves across the Pacific and then hits the West Coast. All of the BC coast got hit as well as Washington state. We got a foot of rain in 3 days! Along with the rain, the weather was really warm. None of the local ski hills is open right now, although Whistler is probably getting snow. It's over an hour north of the city. Glad the show is indoors!

good to know - it would be a last minute whim for me to go - at this point, i'm making a 2nd pilgrimage to atlantic city - i just can't return a rolling stones ticket once it's in my hand!

Aww, not to worry my dear, I have a feeling the planets will line up for you on this one...Powerball lotto win ? (if it happens the Brain gets a little %, right? Don't forget....) BTW. I hope it was OK to "Move THe Message". I didn't think anyone would see that old thread (plus this IS the last North American show so I assumed you'd be going for sure AND if I was back in my ski-ing tip top shape - gotta a pair of Blue/White K2 204cm? in the closet. Yes the Brain WAS a "Downhill Speed Freak" - I'd be there with ya myself. But I ain't crazy, no broken legs or backs for moi) Let me know if you want me to change anything.MB There she is again standing over by the Record Machine......

i should be but will work on reducing the balances AFTER the tour--

MB, i lived next to lake tahoe for 6 years and also outside of seattle, but despite all this ski/boarding experience, i only go on the black runs sometimes. it's been a couple of years too, so i would definitely do mostly blues.

the stones are a great reason to travel and i love BC - i guess with the rumors of cancelled shows, i'll wait until last minute. when you say i should let you know if i want you to change anything, does that mean you'd come out for it (and actually see the show??). i bet you'd be glad you did.

looks good! i can't figure out the lift ticket prices though - it looks like 2 mandatory days. i would complain about lift ticket prices, but then i remember how much stones tix are and skiing sounds cheap.

There is a New Amsterdam Cafe where one can smoke freely.

Regarding purchases, I asked at the cafe where one might purchase such stuff and was told that it was illegal to refer one to any site or person. So instead I asked if there was a place nearby where one might find a refreshing . . . conversation, and I was told . . .

Try the Cambie Hotel, in the bar, stand by the jukebox and don't look too much like a tourista. You'll find great conversationalists abounding.

And they were right.

The conversation was very brief, but, erm, enlightening nonetheless.

really...i thought you might just have to ask for a menu, like in amsterdam. a'dam also has those displays on the wall where you hit a button to turn on a light on in order to view the selection

You can smoke, but you can't buy at the New Amsterdam.

Go to the Cambie to buy. Bring a twenty dollar bill and you're golden.

Had the opportunity to live in Vancouver during a rainless summer in '05. Made it to the Cambie more times than I should have.
