Has BV come over to the dark side?
Posted by: The Sicilian ()

In a recent thread about the set-list at Austin, BV finally declares:

"After the B-stage, the show is over if you don't like to hear the hear the greatest songs."

I could not believe my eyes but there it is, food for the fastidious Stones fan.

Mass exodus will now occur upon conclusion of the B-stage. The word is given.

Mark Twain once said: "A pessimist is a optimist with experience."

BV, I concur.

Eeeh, what BV meant (I think) was that "if you don't like the best songs by the greatest R&R band in the world...perhaps you should just go home". (I hope BV don't mind the translation)
In other words...you're crazy if you don't like the last 8 songs.

Sounds to me that BV's growing tired of the same old 'setlist' moan......

BV has made it clear that he loves hearing these greatest hits songs that they play after the b stage. In his comment he is taking a sarcastic dig at those people who complain about the Stones playing these same songs over and over again in each show. You can be sure that BV loves hearing these songs.

But he also said that than you might have heard them too much and that you need a break. And as BV sees nearly every show, The Sicilian interpretation is OK ;-)

I think BV will never get tired of the Stones!

Remember that in a 40,000+ seat arena, 95% of the crowd people are seeing the band for the first time or for the first time in a very long time so in pleasing the masses, they play the Greatest Hits/Hot Rocks that appeal to the majority.

If they played sets of mostly B-sides, the majority wouldn't be happy and less people would attend shows, thus less gross income.

We fans who would rather hear rare songs/B-sides still attend the shows anyway, so they haven't lost our market share.

Is that a fact?

Speaking of BV, is he following the show right now (IOW, going to all the American Shows) or at home in Norway? I can't tell..... EVERY show? or some, most?

oddly enough
my aunt went and saw the stones on this tour back in toronto in 2005, and left during honkey tonk women as they returned back to the mainstage assuming that would be the end of the show, and so she wanted to beat the crowds.
i think she missed about 5 more song.... including out of control!

odd isnt it? and she is what we would call a casual fan

and youve done a survey to come up with this figure? Seriously? They tour almost every year and yet 95% of the audience are new? Are you therefore suggesting that the vast majority of people who saw them on the last tour didnt bother coming back? Utter nonsense. Is there some new, young audience on this tour or something?

who's suggesting they play "mostly b-sides"? Some more songs that arent on 40 Licks is all most people expect in terms of variety. Not exactly 'Through the lonely nights' is it? How would 'less people attend shows' when theyve bought their ticket before they know what the band are playing? Ah yes, youve just suggested the audience is all new. I guess the 'Licks tour' audience were so disappointed they stayed away this time..

who gives a f**k about 'gross income'?

a hard-core fan friend of mine left the show at 9:30pm and walked a couple of miles all the way to antone's to see hubert sumlin and james cotton - now that is a hard-core blues enthusiast!

If you read my comment above without reading the post I was actually commenting on then may be you believe I was getting tired of the big hits. But the fact is I was actully commenting on a post that basically said the show was over by the time they wend back from the B-stage. I do not agree at all about that.

There are songs I like a lot and songs I like normally and songs that make me freak out, but the last 5-6 songs of the show are just as great as the most obscure ones. The day I don't like SFTD, BS, JJF, SAT, IORR, CAG, TD and PIB this site will not be online anymore.

Bjornulf -

I was going to clarify your post for everyone, but you beat me to it.

I have no idea why people didn't understand what you were saying. The words were written clearly enough, yet somehow it still confused some people.

Odd.

that's gotta be my favorite bv quotation ever.

The guy's a gem: precious, multi-faceted, a little opaque, a rare find, and as hard as he needs to be.

BV,

For the record, I'm just tuggin your chain a little. That being said there is truth in your observation that any veteran Stones fan should know. I myself have seen and said the same thing many times.

It just warms our hearts to know that it sometimes puts a stone in your shoe too.

To help out anyone who stared at the initials "CAG" and struggled to understand what they represent, as I did, I think they may refer to "you Can't Always Get what you want." So I'm slow.
