Fuzz takes the actual signal/sound and adds to it. Another signal on top of the original.
Distortion works with the basic signal and distorts it.

Listen to Justin Hayward from the Moody Blues (electric sound between 1968 and 1975) you can't get anymore fuzz sounding that that. Listen to the guitar leads in The Story In Your Eyes or I'm Just A Singer In A rock and roll Band. Sounds like a buzzing sound. Fuzz is a type of distortion. Distortion falls into countless catagories. Anywhere from amp overdrive to stomp boxes.

A fuzzbox is a type of stomp box comprising an amplifier and a clipping circuit, which generates a deliberately distorted version of the input signal. As opposed to other distortion guitar effects pedals, a fuzzbox boosts and clips the signal sufficiently to turn a standard sine wave input into what is effectively a square wave output. This gives a much more distorted and synthetic sound than a standard distortion or overdrive.

I have an old big Music Man, I keep the 1st volume button on 7 or 8, and the 2nd button (the main button) on 2 or 3. But no effects from fuzzbox or so.
I get a clean nice sound if I play gentle, and a cool rough sound if I play hard.

He used a Fuzz Face. The Big Muff is sometimes mentioned but that was invented in 1971 and I don't think Hendrix was doing a whole lot of makin' popular in 1971.

dats right Gecko winking smiley

Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face

This is the fuzz pedal Hendrix used throughout his career. Mention this pedal to any rabid fuzz nut and you hear a flurry of cryptic part numbers like AC-128s, BC 108 and 109s, BC-183Ls, and NKT-275s. Two hours later youve just endured a longwinded lecture on all the different Germanium PNP and Silicon Transistors used in the various Fuzz Faces. While there is much debate over which model is the best, most experts agree on that the Germanium NKT-275 Model sounds the sweetest. Thats said, the Fuzz Face is that recognizable bassy to mid-toned fuzz. Its warm and wooly with just enough edge to make full grown amps melt. These things literally sing and that ablity to sing is what has made this particular model the Holy Grail of all fuzz boxes. Prices on the used market are in the ridiculous range so most gearheads buy the Dunlop Re-issue, and modify them to original specs.

Do you suggest going for fuzz or distortion? If I go for fuzz which one tp choose. Please suggest products with logical price.Maestro fuzz tone is any good beside the fact it was used for satisfaction.
