Miss You 78 vs. Imagination 81

My eternal dilemma!

I always considered Miss You 78 (just any version) to be the best, tightest, wildest, funkyest, sexiest, immoratal piece of music ever. The thing that should be sent in the space representing the idea of music on earth. All this until I listened to Imagination 81.

Since then, I can't decide, which is THE best.

Check out the Imagination versions from 78 on Handsome Girls. They really kick ass!

I know, I know, but I think that the band was looser and Bill worked better in the 81 version!

It was great to see them with such a tight stripped-down stage show in '78! No gimmicks, just music. Charlie kills on this.

For me, anything played on both tours is better in 78.

As much as I love the known recordings of the 78 tour this one of
Hampton 81 is the ultimate imagination...

the 78 tour wins hands down! Miss You is superb from 78. Full of force and dueling guitars at their best. Whew, and Jagger sings it fantastically. 81 for me is the 80's flash. Bright colors, no menace. Some cool versions and great performances, but I prefer 78. And 81 Jagger's voice just doesn't cut it! He sounds perpetually hoarse, a coke cold that never goes away during the entire tour. His tone and range are just not as good as 78.

You've got solid arguments there!

Imagination 81, the long outro, everybody jamming, soloing, doing their thing, Mingus style, YET, it all fit together, and rocked!

Just my Imagination without any hesitation.

I am a Frenchie ,as Mick affectionately called them in the Old Grey Whistle Test in 1977 .
