OT: Ronnie James DIO Diagnosed With Stomach Cancer

Ronnie James Dio, former vocalist with Black Sabbath and Rainbow, has been diagnosed with stomach cancer.

The American singer, currently fronting Heaven And Hell with Sabbath members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler as well as his own band Dio, is to “start treatment immediately”, according to his wife and manager, Wendy.

She added: “After he kills this dragon, Ronnie will be back on stage, where he belongs; doing what he loves best, performing for his fans.”

Dio was recruited by Deep Purple’s Ritchie Blackmore in 1975 to form Rainbow. He then left to join Black Sabbath in 1979, following Ozzy Osbourne’s departure. He has fronted his band Dio since 1982.

I saw Heaven and hell a few months ago and Ronnie had the same energy and was very professional.
I have to admit he is a very good alternative to Ozzy in Black Sabbath thanks to his charisma and powerful voic (THE MOB RULES what an LP !! awesome)

Take care Ronnie and come back soon.

That's sad. I hope he recovers. Dio is not the kind of artist you'd admit at parties listening to, but hey, when I was 16 I played Holy Diver a lot.

I will proudly say I love this guy--more so after seeing him a few months ago--67 years old and he spoiled his fans at the Greek--my teenaged son actually turned me on to him and I'm so glad he did--we're praying for you, RJD--slay that dragon

I agree with you. Also one of the all time nicest guys.
He´s been in the music buisness as long as the stones. I believe this recording is from 1963, maybe even earlier.

Get well soon Ronnie.

If thats the case dude, then I'm not sure I'd wanna go to the same parties that you go to.

Seen him many times over the years, and he still puts on an amazing performance. This guy has got a set of pipes on him, and can still do the business on stage. at 67!!!
