"A Bigger Bang" (tour and album 1 year later) Rants and Raves

Let me first say I am a diehard and have been since I saw them for the first time beginning with the famed 1973 Eurpean tour. I have seen them at least once and most times twice on every US tour since 1975. I attended 3 shows this tour,Soldier Field, Columbus, and the second United Center show.

Let me start with the Rants.

1.The album sould have come out before the tour start and should have included "Under The Radar" and "Don't Wanna Go Home.
2.The concert opening song should have been something never used before.
(My choice would have been "Oh No, Not You Again")
3 Set lists should have been 21 or 22 songs every concert.
4.At least 6 songs from the new album every concert.
5.The string of warhorses at the end of every show have become so boring to me.
(Mix up the flow a little bit like Voodoo Longe and "Monkey Man" was included late in the set)
6.I hate to pick on Ronnie but his playing on this tour has been incredibly erratic. He 's still capable I think he needs to work harder.
7.Mick needs to sell the new stuff better to the audience.
(Example B2B Tour "Out of Control" The most incredible debut of a new song ever.)
8. Keith is Keith

The Raves
1. A very strong album and it frustrates me that more people did'nt hear it.
I think they really captured something on this one that I have not heard in a long time particularly "Let Me Down Slow" and "Laugh, I Nearly Died".
2. Mick is the ultimate frontman and he continues to get better.
3. Charlie is a pro (The Stones are over if he ever quits)
4. "Midnight Rambler" from the second United Center show was the most amazing version I have ever heard in the modern era (post 1989).
5. They still had the balls to try "Sway".
6. Ronnie did have some good nights
7. They are still the best band in the world.
8. Keith is Keith and he's the heart and soul of this band.

Sorry but his is just a fragment of what he used to be. Tell Keith it's time to stop posing and play the guitar. This is The Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones show and has been for a long time.

Sorry Keith fans but that's the truth, I truly believe he is still capable, but he cannot go all out for an entire show any longer, either by choice or his arthritis is too bad.

Okay, lets all add in now:

Rants:

1) Not Playing enough ABB songs in the setlist
2) Keith Falling on his head (delaying and cancelling many shows, etc, a true shame)
3) Mick's Laryngitus (cancelling more shows)
4) Ronnies apparently not so great playing..
5) Keiths messing up the opening riffs (brown sugar..etc..)
6) The melded start of Satisfaction..should wait until its quiet then BOOM the Riff!
7) IORR seems..a bit to fast..somethings wrong
8) Setlists could be improved..just a bit..
9) No fire or firworks in arena show?
10) Charlie's attitude (hate for touring etc)

Raves:

1) AWESOME STAGE!!!!, lightshow and pyro!
2) Excellent Album!
3) Loving the stage costumes (but some of the are terrible)
4) Amazing versions of songs (MR!!!)
5) Good Setlists (not amazing, but good)
6) Mick being in top form, BEST yet

yes that's true. Mick holds the entire thing and keith should be more efficient like he can be (paris july 28 insteed of Milan 2006).

But anyway, ABB has provided 2 or 3 songs absolutely amazing (the rest...ourgh !) and the band is still the best one on stage, no word.

now i would like them to take time and work harder on new material. They can rework some great outtakes almost finished (fotunately they did it for tattoo you, what a treasure ! that could have been lost for ever), make some great covers in their own style (yesterday i listened to the original Temptations "just my imagination". The stones made a terrific version of it, rock'n'rolling, faster. And take the example of the new discovered "precious love"...we love it already).
They did this work with stripped for their own songs already released. it was a nice effort and a great result.

friends from Spain are angry (me too, i was supposed to see the band in barcelona, Paris twice instead of once and Brussels). But we can understand that accidents may happen smiling smiley when you are more than 60 and you are constantly on the road (or in trees, or in your library - keith "fall down" Richards). I forgive them easily for such pleasures I received from them.

Keith should thank his lucky stars that Mick is so good. And to think he has the nerve to crtiicize Mick's solo work. It must kill Mick to know that so many people think Keith is 1/2 the success of the group.

Keith is the carrier of the torch. Its his baby. Mick does it for his love of fame and money. Keith loves the music.

One should never bash Keef, he IS the man and without him the band would never have gained the status and following they enjoy today. Maybe he's not quite the player he used to be; it's amazing he can play anything with the fingers he has, but he eserves his due.

Shame on Keef bashers...the man is the epitomy of rock and roll, not to mention being the inventor of "cool."

1st of all...agree competely with tatoome. And I don't think it's Keith bashing. I'm sure everyone here loves Keith. But your lying to yourself if you don't agree that he either dosen't or can't play live like he used to.

And I know he has arthritis and I feel lucky he is touring at this point in any capacity, but look at old live footage from the 60's & 70's or hell, even the 80's & 90's and he is clearly more concetrated on playing. He is more focused. Now his guitar is slug so low he can mostly just reach the neck with his pick. He poses and showboats more than playing. And he looks great doing it, but messing up riffs he has played for 20-30years (BS, SMU, BTMMR, etc..) that shouldn't happen IMO. And as a guitarist I know it's hard to play some of these riffs when your guitar is slung so low. Looks cool, but playing can be difficult.

I agree completely that Keith was the power behind the group in the early days. Maybe even more than Mick. But since 1977 Mick has carried him.

ABB is the album where Mick has taken over as the riffmaster.

Not bashing Keef as much as being in awe of Mick's mastery of the genre.

the album is getting better everytime i hear it.great guitars, great vocals, the beat is once more incredible.imo this album will be a classic in some years. i think it is better than voodoo and b2b together.
to the tour: - just incredible - i love it to hear "our" boys everytime life, despite the setlist bashing. i don`t care.the show is incredible imo.

especially the most dissed stones song ever - sol - has turned into a live killer song

-----------------------------------------------------
Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul
I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away

More than "Midnight Rambler" in '69?

My omly bad review is for Swet Neo Con . Ijust don'y care for it too much

I love the new single "Biggest Mistake " . It should have been the first single released

Album: Solid stuff, but not even close to Tattoo You.
Best songs: Rain Fall Down, Let Me Down Slow, Laugh I Nearly Died, Drivin' Too Fast, Oh No Not You Again
Tour: Solid start, became more boring after each show, kind of Licks II without that much surprises (Only surprises so far: Sway, She's So Cold, Under My Thumb uptempo)
I'm sure this is the last tour.
Bring in Soul Survivor, 100 Years Ago, Winter, Down In The Hole................

Oh No, Not you Again is the best Stones rocker since One Hit to the Body.

Keef's rendition of Paint It, Black (Jan 27, St. Louis) made me feel insignificant as a human being compared to his godlieness. I almost just spontaneously combusted in my seat. There's my rave. My only rant is that the t-shirt I payed $30 is dumb as hell. Mick and Charlie didn't design those, did they?
