isn't the stage crowded enough with derek trucks, doyle, and eric...no offense to ronnie but he would be lost in the crowd... he's at home relaxing, waiting to hear the rattle of the fax machine saying all is well, let's get on with this...

Me too! I'm going with my old man (i'm 28), will have a couple of drinks in one of the bars before the show. Is it the robert cray band supporting?
from the looks of the set lists, eric has been playing songs that give everyone a decent space for some soloing...derek trucks is just mind blowing and i hope that eric doesn't put to much of a leash on him...i can't wait for him to hits these shores...

I'm in stalls section O row 8, there'll be three of us - moi & 2 women. Yes, Robert Cray is indeed supporting, and he is NOT to be missed. I personally reckon he's the next BB King, although he hasn't "quite" got what BB had/still has. Depending on the show (which I expect to be outrageous), I think I'll almost certainly be heading to the Mean Fiddler on Charing-X Road the following Wednesday 24th to see Derek Trucks' first ever performance in the UK.

the tour started last week. they are playing several numbers from the Derek & the Dominoes album that have rarely/never been done, including "I am Yours" and "Anyday" with Trucks reprising Duane's classic slide parts. Oh, man - I hope they take this tour to the States....

Sounds great! So what is all the fuss about this truckdriver geezer on guitar??!! I've heard he is supposed to an amazing player, but i know nothing more. The more i read about claptons tour the more i am getting excited. I went off him a bit after 'pilgrim', he has a tendancy to go onto autopilot, and didnt like the musical direction he was taking. However it sounds like he has his mojo back. If tomorrow is as good as im expecting then i may also be going to trucks' solo show. You said the mean fiddler, is that next to the astoria? I thought the mean fiddler used to be in harlesden?

just the baddest-assed slide player since Duane died. Been playing with the Allmans since he was 14. Mind-blowing player. He instantly raises the bar for any band I've seen him with....
get any derek trucks band album, hittin the note by the allman brothers,or any bootleg of an allmans show from about 2002 and on and you will see what all the fuss is about...this guy peels the paint off of the walls...

The Mean Fiddler did indeed used to be in Harlesden, but apparently it is now in Charing X road; t'was a surprise to me too. I think the name was "acquired" by one of the breweries (Carling perhaps ?) and the premises is now in central London. Whatever ? Anyway, I plan on being there for Derek Trucks, everywhere you look the reviews on this guy seem to be glowing. Gotta give 'im a listen !

I checked on the web, and the mean fiddler used to be called the LA2 (london astoria 2). It is next to the astoria on charing X road. Sorted!
Just brilliant guitar players. But he couldn't get the audience on his feet (except for those who were already standing :-) Very cool of EC to invite younger guitar players to do their thing as well.
For whatever reason Wood is no longer the caliber of musicians that are on that stage........
Just returned to the USA from seeing 4 shows last week at the RAH. I was impressed. The guitar work is really extraordinary and a testament to what a guitar can sound like when in the right hands.
The strongest lineup of blues/rock musicians that Clapton has had around him since the Dominoes days. Steve Jordan and Willie Weeks add a different element to EC's band. Jordan in particular has changed the sound of EC's concerts. The guy is totally on fire!! Very powerful drummer! He drives the overall sound of the band.
I have seen Eric Clapton share the stage with many famed guitarists, Mark Knopfler, Carlos Santana and others. However I always felt he was comfortably up to any challenge and was the best guitarist onstage. At times last week I wondered if that were still true with the performances being laid out be Derek Trucks. I have seen DT many times with the Allman Brothers and considered him to be the future of blues/rock guitar. I must say though that from watching and listening from 3rd row seats last week that DT has evolved in to a guitar player with very special skills, not only as a slide player but is now putting the whole picture together, timing, phrasing, bending strings, playing lyrically, vibrato, the whole works.
EC to his credit has clearly given DT the green light to do his thing within the framework of the songs being played. In fact when Derek takes flight EC has a grin on his face as big as the Albert Hall itself. Clapton is clearly enjoying Truck's playing. And EC was more than up to the challenge and played some of the more inspired solo's I have heard from him ever.
Again these shows are great with great musicians. I would recommend attending the shows if you can. As an added benefit Robert Cray is opening up the shows and is joining EC's band onstage for the encore "Crossroads."
