OT - Q To Our Scandinavian Friends

I am really not very much into electronic trip grooves. But lately while travelling in the van I have been listening to this act callked Royksopp. I only have the album called "The Undertsanding" but I hear that "Melody" is supposed to be better. The thing about "Understanding" is that it is uneven. Much of it is generic computer gibbering with a beat, but when all of the sudden it transcends that and becomes good, it becomes REAL good.
Are they known in Norway? I think the couple is from there.

But there is that weird English again. "...and when I'm getting close, you douche my innermost..." LOL WTF??

They are well known over here in Norway. And hey, not that many Norwegian bands makes it out there. If you leave out A-ha, you are more or less stranded with Turbonegro, Röyksopp and some girls that are huge in Japan (I probably forgot some). We are also big on Black metal... Wouldn't be surprised if Turbonegro opens a show or two in Germany this summer.

I normally hate that kind of music, but Röyksopp got something I can't explain.
I will never buy a record but don't change the channel when they are on the radio.
Melody (is it Melody A.M?) is the one they won all the awards with and got their breakthrough song - Something with "Leno"

Röyksopp were huge in Norway, and for a short period also in the rest of the world. But IMO, now their time is up. The ice-cold computerized chill melts after a while. But they definitely got something there a while...

Dandelion; why is Swedish & Norweigan rock so uncompatible (with
the birhgt shining exception of Bullit of course).............?
I have about 60-70 Danish records in my collection but almost no Norweigan.
My brain damage, only?

If one would listen & discover them;
where should one start... ?

<why is Swedish & Norweigan rock so uncompatible>

The "Big brother-complex" maybe smiling smiley It's hard for a norwegian band to get a break in Sweden - even A-ha was dissed hard with Take On Me.

Norwegians however, have always loved swedish artists...

On the other hand, I do not have many swedish records either. I have "Kjär och galen" by Ulf Lundell (great!). I should have bought some Kent-records (at least since they borrowed my HI-WATT amp in the 90s for a TV-show here in Norway) smiling smiley

That's the thign that I find interesting though: on a site like this one dedicated to the Stones who are the very epidemy of real, breathing life music with blood, one would never think that anyone would go for Techno. I don't even know if Royskopp is Techno but they are close. And I found that they have something kore; there is a pulse! LOL
And I also find ( especially by reading the posts among the Scandinavians) that a certain music will ring different in various countries. the same song by tyhe sme band will impact differently at the samew time in various cultures.
I see you guys talking about Lynard Skynard or the Black Crowes and to me they are akin to breakfast. But then maybe Royskopp to me is interseting while to you they are the stuff of TV jingles.

It's weird, really: My Norweigan uncle knows way more
about contemp. Swedish rock than me.
I dont fancy neither Lundell nor Kent,
but I likes Lundell's Vitt Regn & he is
obviously been influenced by the
Stones lately.
As for Chelsea on Skynyrd; I lurved them since 1974...
But still does, but the old issue.

Some of the best Norwegian bands sing in the norwegian language.
I guess the Swedes don't like the sound of it.
We had one band, Depress, that was awesome. They sang in english and polish. The singer Andrej Nebb came from Poland. They ended in the mid 80s. Really cool.

Erik - that Nebb dude; didnt he play in Holy Toy before?
I fancied them a lot!!

Sir Rooster - you ought to check up the ABBA-members
60s catalog; all had interesting deeds behind them
before ABBA (and, in Fridas case, while in ABBA;
her solo-album where she covered Bowie - Life On Mars
& 10CC - Wall Street Shuffle smokes):

Look for Hootenanny Singers for Björn
& Hep Stars for Benny; vocalist in the latter
was Svenne, mentioned above. The black US female vocalist
Lotta later joined, then she & Svenne (Hedlund) started
a career as a duet.

Direct link to "Frida Ensam" remastered & reissued May 2005.

Liv på Mars & Guld och gröna ängar is the covers I mentioned.
Alas she sings in Swedish; but that may spice it up a bit too.

Andrej Nebb is a lunitic, but a cool one. Too weird for me, but De Press was cool.

For really good norwegian bands with english lyrics, check out:

Big Bang (maybe the best rock'n'roll band we have)
Serena Maneesh
Motorpsycho (a bit strange, but lots of variety)
Jim Stärk
Backstreet Girls (they've played their rock'n'roll since the early 80s)
A-ha (of course smiling smiley )
Kare & The Cavemen (Unfortunately they broke up in the 90s)
Silver
