Check out Rocks Off in the "Connection" section from the home page.
They have a good explanation.
A good client is:
[pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net]
Basically download a torrent file, open it with the client.

You can also start with a simple, basic programm:

Worked for me - and hey, that means something!

You can skip that. Just go to the Rocks Off Bittorrent tracker and click on a torrent: it opens and starts dl'ing automatically.

That's basically it. Of course you need to forward some ports. If you haven't done that yet google around on 'port fowarding'. For bittorrents you need to open ports 6881 to 6889 or your router.

you don't "need" to forward ports - it helps with speed, though.

Not in a literal sense, but not having ports forwarded slows down your downlaods by a factor ten (meaning it takes weeks to get one show).

I've never forwarded any ports and my torrents download pretty fast.

I think it might depend on your broadband connection, router, modem, etc. In my case before forwarding I was 'dl'ing no faster than 8 kb/s, after at 30-150 kb/s. Anyway, if you can do without, that's even better.
