in the early 90's, it was Washington, DC for the cool underground bars ruled by the Dischord record scene and the bike messengers - i understand it fell apart after i moved away...

OT: Constitution Hall in DC was where I saw Keith's tour in '92 - he played past the midnight curfew and they pulled the electricity on him in the middle of the show! The drummer kept drumming and Keith just shook everyone's hand in the front row - you could tell he felt bad and they made the most of it.

I believe central Dublin boasts something like 1,000 pubs. And the Guinness is oh-so-fine.

the 24 hour drinking isnt available to just everyone, as far as I know

I think each establishment has to apply for a licence to allow them to do it, although maybe someone who lives there could correct me if I'm wrong

Given our cultural inability as a nation to drink responsibly, its a disaster waiting to happen

Gazza you are pretty much correct here. Before November 2005, when the new law came into effect, EVERY bar / pub etc had to re-apply for a licence, even if all they wanted was to keep their opening times the same (11pm). Those that wanted an extension were assessed on track record, location (residential etc.) and many were given perhaps an extra 30mins or an hour. I live in Putney, and their are still many pubs closing at 11pm, but also enough that now close at 12am, and a couple open until 2am (pubs with no admission charge!) as well as a club open until 4am.

So that is pretty good for a 'non-central' part of london. In the west end there are lots of places open later, but unless you know exactly which ones, you can end up a bit screwed at 11:30pm looking for places open later, because many places that are open until after midnight require you to be inside by 11pm.

1) Las Vegas (24 hours)
2) New Orleans (the same-was there last July and I hope it comes back)
3) Montreal-Best strippers in the World.

(In my opinion)

what I eventually came to learn during my first tour of Ireland a couple of years ago, was that "closing time" is a very different concept than it is in the US. "Closing" for many pubs means you can't get in any more but you can stay as long as you like!

New Orleans, NYC, and I like Galway and Stab City better than Dublin

I AM SURPRISED NOT TO SEE THESE TWO CITIES MENTIONED.

NEW ORLEANS - BOURBON STREET
KEY WEST - DUVAL CRAWL

BOTH CITIES YOU CAN WALK ALL NITE DRINKING IN THE STREETS. FIND GOOD MUSIC AND GOOD TIMES. PLUS A COUPLE CLUBS. STRIPPING AND DANCING.
