Favorite harmony tracks with Keith and Mick (and Ronnie)

So what are some of your favs and why?

Casino Boogie is great. Keith is really high in the mix and singing along with Jagger through most the song. Perfect meld of Jagger with Keith's falsetto.

Beast of Burden- Keith, Ronnie and Mick on this one, a review in Cream when the album came out was extolling the fact the Stones were harmonizing a lot on Some Girls...

You've Gotta Move on Love You Live, some very cool harmonies from Keith!

What's your favorite flavor????

Through The Lonely Nights comes to mind
Also there's a version of If You Need Me on which Keith completely steals the show
...and all live 78 and 81 Ronnie & Keith back up vocals

yep: the july 17th 1964 Joe Loss show rendition is a joy forever, for sure!
i agree about those amazing 81/82 harmonies as well - especially Time Is On My Side
and the Mick's brilliantly deadpan harmony vocals on the studio version of Little T&A deserve a mention
and those wildcat-in-rutting-season backups on Cherry oh Baby
and any time Keith does that glimmer thing of just touching the lines with his voice -
eh - see why i never do favourites?! these cats have splattered gorgeous and inimitable harmony moments all over the damn place -
thanks and praises and hail hail Rolling Stones

When was it that Ronnie stopped singing any vocals? I know is singing ability deteriorated over the years, but it seemed to have stopped all of a sudden.

Lots of good ones. My faves are the Torn & Frayed, Dead Flowers, the chorus to Wild Horses, and Ladies & Gentlemen version of Happy, and - a less obvious one - The Worst. On the latter, I remember a review of VL in Entertainment Weekly said they sounded like 2 old tomcats yowling at the moon on that song whenever Mick joins in.

I also remember reading where one rock critic (don't remember where) said Keith was the only backing vocalist in rock who seemed to be able to "sing in several different keys at once".

I love this post ! I've always been captivated by the background vocals of Mick Keith ( Ronnie , Bill ,and whoever else but especially M @ K . I like Ain't Too Proud Too Beg where Keith is just slightly behind Mick when they go I Know You Want To Leave Me . I've always enjoyed Faraway Eyes . And then theres Happy with Mick doing Backup chores . I've often wondered how it woul sound if Mick sang lead vocal on Happy . Is there a version out there among you solid fans ? I heard there was .

kittypoo, first what a name you have! Funny!
I also love the harmonies on Faraway Eyes, and to add, the undead like backing vocals in Shattered are incredible. Full of menace and decay, like the walking dead. Always reminded me of Bowie's Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family at the end of Big Brother. Great stuff!!
I don't think there is a version of Happy with Mick doing the lead. Keith ripped that one out on his own with Bobby Keys when no one was around in the basement. Great vocals and I wish Mick would go back to singing it with Keith live. Love it on Ladies and Gentlemen!!!

Let's don't leave out 'No Use In Crying' - all three - drop dead georgous.

Also like M&K on the live 81 'Time Is On My Side' - with Keith going all around the lead line in perfect country blues counterpoint to the sould classic - gives the song a totally new twist.

I believe it's Mick doing all the vocals on "No Use In Crying."

Good Call on that one. Its such a Keith song, I easily forget that He's on that track but to me that's a tribute to his ability to blend in with the song without being overpowering. When you listen for him there's no missing his part though.

I've always loved the harmonies on the chorus of "Last Time". I find myself singing along each time I hear the song.

That's a terrific choice, actually.
Dear Doctor, too. The Everlys could do a nice version of that.

You're absolutely right shortfatfanny !
Don't know why ,but everytime I'm listening to it ,it almost brings tears to my eyes .....not because of the lyrics but for the images from that one ? Past times from 73 ?

You gotta move was a highlight in the otherwise humdrum concerts of 1976.

And do not forget my favourite son: Salt of the earth, with background vocals all around.
