Songs We Hate
Posted by: monkeygripglue ()

this is not a stones bashing post by any means...i was just thinking of which songs by the boys that i just don't like...i've come up with 10 of them:

1. Mixed Emotions - lyrically this song could've been written by a 10 year old

2. Back to Zero - the first time i heard this i was wondering 'what the hell is this crap?" and expected the guys from Cameo to sing along on the chorus..

3. Streets of Love - soap opera soundtrack music. i can't hear it without thinking of some chisel-face guy named "Brock" making out with some chick by a fireplace. It has a lame guitar solo in it too.

4. Sex Drive - i thought the song was bad...until i saw the video..

5. Winning Ugly - see # 2

6. Terrifying - lyrically like Mixed Emotions..i am a grown man...i don't wanna hear about Mick Jagger being as 'horny as a hog'...

7. The Biggest Mistake - i can't believe that the same man who wrote "Bitch" is responsible for this winey piece of crap. The music is 'safe' and predictable... it could easily fit alongside anything on CMT if the lyrics were changed to something about being proud to be american or remembering the twin towers...

8. Can't Be Seen - Keith at his 80's best...or not...i guess i could stomach it more if it didnt have that lousy production..luckily Slipping Away is there to make up for it..

9. When the Whip Comes Down - ok ok i know that a lot of people consider this a classic but it's always annoyed me..it goes on and on and on...when i want to listen to repetitive music i listen to public image ltd.

10. Almost Hear You Sigh - The beginning of our heroes foray into 'adult contemporary'...so much for street fighting man.

i TOTALY disagree with you, Almost Hear You Sigh is one of their best ballad, it is so beautifull, Streets Of Love it is excelent too, my 18 years ol brother loves that song and ask me why they dont play it live, Can't Be Seen i love it, Keith should play this one again, and Mixed Emotions is a hit!!!

Only Back To Zero and Streets Of Love are weak in your list.

When The Whip Comes Down???? Terrifying???? Almost Hear You Sigh????

Wow, it says a lot about the stones that the fans have so different taste, regarding which songs they like...

Mixed Emotions could have been written by a ten year old? That doesn't make any sense. It's the song that lyrically best represents the way the band actually felt at the given time.

yeah i thought it would be interesting to see which songs we all disliked...one man's trash is another man's treasure...one of my favorite songs is "Downtown Susie"..

in regards to Mixed Emotions being a 'hit'...take a look at the top ten charts Sam...does being a 'hit' merit being a good song??? if that's the case i am on my way to get the new madonna or whatever cookie cutter rap cd that is hot this week.

as far as Can't Be Seen..take off the echo..the cheesed out 80's synth and the backup singers...the core of the song is good..the production is crap...the whole album should be remixed and the inner sleeve shouldn't have any pictures of them from that period..

Remember Stones formed thier songwriting abilities in the 60s,
within the formula of 2½-3 minutes hit songs.
But I also have a tough time with some of the 80s stuff,
cause its so overloaded arrangement-wise.

Your views have my respect. But to say you don't like Mixed Emotions, I just don't get it. I really really don't.I'm going to play it now to make sure I've not lost my mind.

that's why i like this forum...because everyone has different opinions and views...i don't really like the lyrics or melody of the song...but mostly the lyrics...they seem like not too much effort was in them..i respect the fact that they were trying to convey a message about how it was really hard for them to make up their minds about getting back together and making tons of dough by going on a huge tour that lacked any sort of feeling or ingenuity but it doesn't seem sincere or 'stonesy' in the least... the tour should've been called CHUCK LEVELL PRESENTS HOT ROCKS WITH CROWD NOISE AND BAD FASHION!!! ALL AGES!!!

The worst for me is "You Can't Catch Me" !!
it's fortunate that they didn't write it !

Indian Girl is a solid change of pace on that album,in my opinion.

6 of you 10 are on either my hate or 'strongly dislike' list as well. Nice job!

There is some whiney piece of crap I keep hearing on the radio that goes "You're beautiful, you're beautiful" that is terrible. It sounds as bad as the song from the movie "Closer" that went "Can't take my eye-eyeyes off you.."Maybe it is the same guy.

"...no longer shall you trudge 'cross my peaceful mind."

Monkeygripglue, point taken but I still disagree. But like you say it makes for a good discussion. And maybe learning something. Which I certainly have since using IORR.

You Can't Always Get What You Want - an obvious attempt to write a follow-up to SFTD.

You can almost see Jagger in front of his piano trying to force creativity in a moment
where there was none. "You can't always get what you want - no, wahant - but if
you try sometimes, you might - here I should start to throw in some melody - might
find, you get what, what - well, how to end, ah, lets say, as usual - what you need. You
can't ..."

I hate 80% of everything released under the Rolling Stones moniker post Undercover.

Also, a big hate-out to all Mick solo albums--please stop!

I agree with Chas. That 20% I like is some really good stuff. But the rest seems repetitive and uninspired, in my opinion.

As for the Mick solo stuff, I've learned to ignore it. I get too disappointed.
