Just curious
All the lyrics section say "Kingman, Barstow, San bernanido"
I don't hear "Kingman"
What does Mick say exactly ?

Thanks

Chris

He-he. My band used to play this one, and I never knew the lyrics, so I just sang things that sounded the same. San Bernandino was correct though.

Kingman, Barstow, San bernanido is what I sing and I think it's what Mick sings. I've heard loads of bands do this song who don't get the lyrics right....

i hear Mick sing assorted things on different renditions,
but i think they're all just slightly-fluffed versions of
Kingman Barstow San Bernadino would you
get hip to this kindly tip [guitar: ~ ~ ~]
and go take that California trip [~ ~ ~]
get your kicks ~ on Route 66 [ahh hear that ROLL ~ let's dance!]

Yes, with sssoul. It looks like it was only the cities I had problems with. I spend too much on time on recordings like Knebworth 76/El Mocambo 77 instead of the "clean" original version. Even the lyrics of "Brown Sugar" from the 75-tour is hard, if you haven't heard the original version (of course I have heard it). "Aaaaah, Brown Babe, chusta yke a young ga' shoouuuuld, HOT DOG!"

Ha! That's funny Rockman!
Now, I suddenly remember we used to play All Down The Line (we didn't only play Rolling Stones, by the way).
And I used to include that end from Passaic 1978. "That's where I'll meet you, that's where I'll go, that's where I'll be when the whistle-whistle-whistle blow. [Guitar] Ooooh, you slow down suckers..."
What is that last sentence anyway? (I'm sure mine is incorrect)

The more I read those GOOMC lyrics, the more shocked I am. It's like they did as many mistakes as possible. "My drag was stuck on my little tree." It's hillarious!

I don't know if "Big Sur" is on the Route 66, but phonetically "Too tough"
is right
When you listen to the first album version and the live version on "december's
children" Mick didn't say "Kingman" (But English isn't my mother tongue, I admit)

Thanks everybody

Sometimes it sounds like instead of "St. Louie" Mick sings something about "Suzy Louie" - not sure if he really understood what the hell the song was about in the early days....

Well, there's 2 important things here.

Firstly, Mick deliberately sings some songs so that the lyrics are not easy to understand, imo.

Secondly, when he sings live and forgets the lyrics, he just puts sounds/words in that fit....I know I do it myself...listen close and you'll see what I mean (or should that be hear what I mean?)

well, and that Kingman Barstow line *is* hard to enunciate at high speed - Kingston or Kingsman comes out more willingly.
he also sometimes, weirdly, pronounces the final S in St Louis - and of course how Oklahoma City looks depends on how much he's feelin his oats. :E
